Contemporary service

Effort UMC will hold its next monthly contemporary service at 9:45 a.m., Sunday, March 18.

WPWC Meetings begin

After a two-month winter hiatus, the Western Pocono Women's Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, March 19 at the Effort Methodist Church.

This will be a social evening and a chance to catch up on the club's business.

Guest speaker will be Kathy Kuck, C.E.O. of Pocono Medical Center, who will discuss updates and issues pertaining to the hospital and how they affect this area.

Diversity Task Force

Pleasant Valley's Diversity Task Force will meet from 9:30-11:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 20, at the district office in Brodheadsville.

Touch of Home meets

Operation: Touch of Home group will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, at American Legion Post #927 in Gilbert.

Western Pocono Lions

Western Pocono Lions will meet Wednesday, March 21, at the Old Mill Pizza and Restaurant, Sciota. The program will be presented by Dan Flood from National Penn Investments, who will speak on the economy and investments.

Social time begins at 6:30 p.m. with the dinner meeting starting at 7 p.m. Visitors are welcome. Dinners will be ordered from the menu.

The club is hosting a Miller-Keystone Blood Drive at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville from 1-6 p.m., Thursday, March 22.

Both old and new donors are being asked to give.

Historical society

The Chestnuthill Township Historical Society will hold its next meeting at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 21, at the Chestnuthill Township Park Building on Route 715.

West End Rotary

The Jackson Township Fire Company will be the guests of the West End Rotary when the club meets at 7:30 a.m., Thursday, March 22 at the Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville.

Church collections

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church has several ongoing collections to benefit the community. Families have been asked to donate a nonperishable food item each day of Lent. Those items will be given to the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network for distribution to folks in need.

A second collection is being accepted by the TLC Mom's Group, which is collecting used books, CDs and DVDs for a used book sale. Parishioners are asked to drop them off on the specially-marked table in McCawley Hall.

A third collection is for #8 crochet hooks and yarn for the Youth Group for its Lenten Prayer Shawl Ministry. Those should be brought to the church office.

4-H members sought

Pennsylvania 4-H 2012 is celebrating 100 years of 4-H in Pennsylvania.

The Penn State Cooperation Extension 4-H office in Stroudsburg is planning a reunion picnic this summer for current and former 4-H members/families. A database of names, physical and email addresses is being created.

Local families are asked to call the 4-H office at (570) 421-6430 with the their names, physical and email addresses for a database; or to mail it to the 4-H office c/o Penn State Cooperation Extension, 724 Phillips St., Suite 201, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
