Older and bolder
The Salvation Army's Older and Bolder group is back in action.
The regular Wednesday meetings are held at the Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St., and include a light luncheon.
A guest speaker from Diakon will attend the March 21 meeting with an exerette demonstration. Diakon offers a variety of services to those age 50 and older.
The March 28 meeting will include hand bell rehearsal and use of the computer lab.
The bell tour for Easter will include April 3, Hometown Nursing Center at 10 a.m., Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise at 11 a.m. and Majestic House Complex at noon; and April 4, St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital at noon and Maple Shade Meadows at 2:30 p.m.

Garden club scholarship
The South Schuylkill Garden Club is offering a $750 scholarship to a selected Schuylkill County student planning to further his or her education in the field of horticulture, floriculture, landscape architecture, conservation, forestry, botany, agronomy, plant pathology, environmental control, city planning, land management or related subjects. Interested students must submit an application, with a letter of interest, two reference letters and an official high school/college transcript. Zion Lutheran
The Rev. Jeffrey Kistler will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Sunday school classes will meet at 8:30 a.m. Also on Sunday, the senior choir will rehearse at 11 a.m., a coffee fellowship will be held at 11 a.m., Bible study session will be at 4 p.m. and the Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.
Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, property committee meeting at 6 p.m., Scouts meet at 6:30 p.m., finance committee meets at 7:30 p.m.; Wednesday, joint Lutheran midweek Lenten service at St. John's; Thursday, endowment committee meeting at 9 a.m., Scouts meet at 6 p.m., rejoice and sing choir rehearsal at 7 p.m.; Saturday, "Belle of the Ball" gown collection from 10 a.m. until noon, Scouts 100th birthday celebration at noon.
Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional and 10:30 a.m. contemporary worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church.
Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m. Also on Sunday, Triad and growth group leaders will meet at 11:45 a.m.
CareNet Steering Committee meets at 2 p.m. and the monthly service at the Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise will be at 6 p.m.

St. John Lutheran
The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.

First Methodist
The Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. Adult Sunday school will meet at 9:30 a.m. Activities for next week include: Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, chancel choir rehearsal is at 7 p.m.
Free Soup Suppers at SJRS
Free soup suppers will be held every Wednesday at the St. Jerome Regional School until March 28 from 5-6:30 p.m. Sign ups are available at the church.
Board of Health
The March meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health was held recently in the municipal building. Present was Randolph Gormley, Earl Boettger, Shirley Becker and Health Enforcement Officer James Barron. Barron reported making two general inspections at BPO Elks Lodge #592 and Boyer's Food Market. He made six spot checks inspections at Tommy's Specialty Shop, Martha's Place, Burger King, Sister's Cantina, Our Family Mini Mart and Fegley's Mini Mart. He adjusted seven complaints: four rubbish/garbage; two no heat and one infestation.
