Thorpe, Pleasant Vy. get tennis wins

Jim Thorpe and Pleasant Valley recorded victories in scholastic tennis action on Monday.

BOYS TENNIS

Tamaqua-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe improved to 1-1 on the year with its 4-1 tennis victory over Tamaqua.

Corey Ligenza and Kyle Bacher each posted singles wins for the Olympians. They each won in straight sets, with Ligenza winning 6-1, 6-1 and Bacher winning 7-6, 6-3. Both Jim Thorpe doubles teams of Shane Bleicher-Otto/Dalton Becker and Avery Magill/Zach Nace won as well.

Tamaqua's lone victory came from No. 2 singles player Tyler Krell. He won 6-0, 6-2.

Vince Voulo, Jon White and Jon Walmach helped clinched the Bears' win by sweeping singles' play.

Lehighton-Stroudsburg

Stroudsburg defeated Lehighton, 6-1 in Mountain Valley Conference play.

The Indians' No. 1 doubles team of Nick Mantz and Justin Ziegenfus posted the locals only victory of the day. They topped Stroudsburg's team of Marcus Luna and Andy Hendry, 7-1, 7-6 (7-3).

Lehighton falls to 0-2 on the year.
