Marian, Pleasant Vy. teams win two
Marian picked up victories in baseball and softball while Pleasant Valley posted wins in girls soccer and boys tennis to highlight Friday's scholastic sports action.
BASEBALL
Freeland MMI-Marian
Marian opened up its season with an 8-1 non-league victory over Freeland MMI.
The Colts (1-0) tallied five of their nine hits in a six-run third inning to break things open.
Zack Motil had a two-run single in the third frame, while Nick Kweder and Frank Nietz added two hits apiece.

Northern Lehigh scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back, en rout to an 8-1 non-league victory over Pius X.
In addition to picking up the mound win, Joe Seyler had two hits, two runs and two RBI to lead Northern Lehigh. Chris Seiler added two hits for the Bulldogs (1-0).

Northwestern-Blue Mt.
Northwestern scored all five of its runs in the third inning, which was good enough for a 5-1 non-league victory over Blue Mountain.
Austin Kelly and Ty Cunningham had two hits apiece to lead Northwestern (1-0).

U. Dauphin-Tamaqua
JP Leitzel pitched a complete game shutout to lead Upper Dauphin to a 5-0 victory over Tamaqua.
Leitzel struck out seven for the Trojans, while Adam Welker blasted a two-run homer in the fourth inning for Upper Dauphin. Kane Bouchard also added two hits in the win.
For Tamaqua (0-1), Brett Kosciolek had two hits, including a double.

Freeland MMI-Marian
Marian scored early and hung on late for a 7-6 non-league victory over Freeland MMI.
With a 7-0 lead heading into the seventh inning, the Preppers scored six in the top of the final frame to make it close.
Making her first varsity start, Gabby Cann picked up the win by striking out seven, while not allowing an earned run.
Sam Faust had three hits and two runs to pace Marian (1-0). Lindsay Nemeth, who came on in relief to pick up the save, added two hits and two RBI, while Shannon Skotek roped two doubles.

Emily Schlogl had a pair of goals for the Bears while Maria Cimino tallied once. Teresa Cimino and Ema Saboeic both had assists.

PM West-Pleasant Vy.
Pleasant Valley remained undefeated on the season with a 6-1 Mountain Valley Conference victory over Pocono Mountain West.
Jon White and Jon Walmach posted straight set singles victories for the Bears (3-0).
