Indians, 'Dawgs get baseball, softball wins

Lehighton and Northern Lehigh picked up baseball and softball wins in non-league action on Monday.

Elsewhere, Northwestern also triumphed in softball and girls soccer.

BASEBALL

Northern Lehigh

-Jim Thorpe

Northern Lehigh held Jim Thorpe scoreless for the last five innings of the ball game en route to a 5-1 victory.

Pitcher Lucas Pierce gave up just one run in four innings of work along with collecting two hits for the Bulldogs. Trevor Yashur also had two hits and a stolen base.

Nicholas Montenero had two of the four hits for the Olympians.

Catasauqua-Lehighton

Lehighton scored 10 runs on 12 hits and topped non-league foe Catasauqua, 10-5.

Alex Storm went three-for-three with a double and knocked in three runs, while AJ Wenrich added two hits and drove in four runs for the Indians (2-0).

Carlos Perez had two hits for the Roughies (0-2).

Josh Kerns got the win.

SOFTBALL

No. Dame ES-Jim Thorpe

Notre Dame scored two runs in the top of the seventh and then held on to knock off the Olympians, 6-5 in non-league action.

Jim Thorpe's Brittany Caufman led the team with two hits.

K. Moore had a single and home run and B. Malisch added a double and single for the Spartans.

Palisades-Lehighton

Lehighton (2-0) scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to run away from Palisades, 14-11 in non-conference play.

Ashley Otto went 3-for-3 for the Indians with three RBIs and two runs scored. Teammate Emily Kollar finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored.

ES North-Northern Lehigh

Northern Lehigh finished off East Stroudsburg North in six innings by a score of 15-5 in non-league competition.

Kaelah Horwath went the distance for the Lady 'Dawgs and also went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI's.

Shannon Weil also helped out going 3-for-3 and Cassie Toth added two hits and three RBI's.

Tamaqua-Northwestern

Northwestern blanked Tamaqua 10-0 in an early non-league softball match-up.

The Lady Tigers scored four runs in the second and fourth inning to help them get the win.

Lauren Horner had a double, home run and three RBIs, while Calie Rehrig had two hits, a run scored and one RBI for the Tigers.

Brianna Boyle had a double for Tamaqua's lone extra base hit.

Crestwood-Marian

Crestwood took care of the Fillies in non-league softball competition with a 12-1 victory.

The Lady Comets scored eight runs in the fifth and sixth inning to propel them to victory.

Gabby Cann, Abby Hill and Jean Connor all had hits for the Fillies, who with the loss have dropped to 1-1 on the season.

BOYS TENNIS

Moravian Academy

Moravian Academy made quick work of Jim Thorpe on Monday afternoon with a 5-0 victory.

The Lions played solid tennis throughout and only surrendered one game loss in singles and doubles action.

The loss drops the Olympians to 1-3 on the year.

GIRLS SOCCER

No. Lehigh-Salisbury

Salisbury scored twice in each half and blanked Northern Lehigh, 4-0 in Colonial League play.

Emily Kotch led the Falcons with two goals. Goalie Kaylee Owens made 15 saves in net to preserve the shutout.

Palmerton-So. Lehigh

Kelsey King tallied a hat-trick for Southern Lehigh and helped the Spartans to a 4-1 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.

The Bombers' only goal was actually an own-goal on Southern Lehigh.

Northwestern

-Saucon Valley

Northwestern stayed perfect on the year with a 3-1 win over Colonial League foe Saucon Valley.

Haylee Kubat, Sarah Segan and Sabrina Mertz each scored for the Lady Tigers (4-0). Segan also recorded an assist.
