Lansford

Easter egg hunt

St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, will hold its third annual Easter egg hunt on Sunday, April 1, beginning at noon in the parking lots behind the church. A brunch will follow in the church hall.

Children from the parish up to age 10 are welcome to participate and must be accompanied by an adult.

To register their child, parents are asked to call the church office, (570) 645-2282, during normal business hours Monday through Friday.

Easter egg hunt

The Lansford Community Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday, March 31, at 1 p.m. on the grounds of the Lansford Swimming Pool at the western end of town. The easter bunny will arrive via the fire truck, followed by the hunt. Age categories for the hunt are 3-6 and 7-10.

Refreshments will be served.

In the event of rain, the hunt will take place on Sunday, April 1, also at 1 p.m.

The event is being sponsored by the Lansford Improvement Committee, the American Legion Post, Boyer's and the American Fire Company No. 1, Lansford.

St. John Lutheran

Lenten Service at St. John the Evangelist Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. This will be an evening Prayer Service with Holy Communion. For those who wish to come early, a free simple supper will be served at 6 p.m. For more information call the Rev. Marjorie Keiter at (570) 273-4038. Service will not be held if school is canceled or dismissed early due to bad weather on Wednesdays.

Summit Hill

Recreation commission

The Summit Hill Recreation Commission will meet Monday, April 2, at 7 p.m. in the community center, 113 W. Ludlow St. Monica A. Marshall, chairwoman, will be in charge.

SHCIO to meet

The Summit Hill Community Improvement Organization will meet Monday, April 2, at 7 p.m. in the Summit Hill Borough Hall. Maxine Vermillion, president, will be in charge of the session.

Easter on the Hill

The Summit Hill Recreation Commission will hold its annual "Easter on the Hill" program on Sunday, April 1, at 1 p.m.

The event is for Summit Hill residents only, and is for youngsters up to the age of 12.

Festivities will take place in the Bill Black Memorial Park and Ludlow Park. In the event of rain, the program will be moved to the Hill Top Community Center.

Children are urged to bring their own Easter basket.

Accepting donations

St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, will hold its annual Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday, April 8, following the 11 a.m. Mass. The church is accepting donations of gifts, baskets and candy for the youths who participate in the event.

The donations can be dropped off at the parish office during the week or in the church vestibule on weekends.

Shade Tree plans

The Summit Hill Shade Tree Commission announces the annual Arbor Day celebration in the borough will be held Saturday, April 28, at 9 a.m. Trees will be planted in the borough following the traditional ceremony in Memorial Park across from the post office.

Anyone wishing to donate a tree in memory or to honor someone is welcome to do so. Persons interested in the program can contact Lou Vermillion, (570) 645-9772, or John Kupec, 645-9644, for information about the program.

Volunteers are always welcome to help with the plantings.

Donations to help in the Shade Tree Commission efforts to maintain and replace trees in the borough are also welcomed by the commission.

Nesquehoning

Easter egg hunt

An Easter egg hunt will be held at the Nesquehoning Recreation Center on Saturday, March 31 at 2 p.m.

Children must be 10 years old or younger and residents of Nesquehoning. A sign-up sheet will be available at the recreation center during Wednesday night bingo from 5-10 p.m.

NCFC Ladies Auxiliary meeting

The next meeting of the New Columbus Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary will be held Tuesday, April 3 at 7 p.m. President Jerry McConnon will preside and the hospitality committee will be Melva McArdle and Frances Vignone.

VFW Ladies Auxiliary Meeting

The next meeting of the Nesquehoning VFW Ladies Auxiliary will be held Tuesday, April 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Post Home. Nomination and election of officers for 2012-2013 will be held at this session. All members are encouraged to attend.

Meed's Methodist Church

Meed's United Methodist Church will hold a Lenten service tonight at 7 p.m. Sunday worship begins at 11 a.m. with Sunday school for adults and children starting at 9:30 a.m. Maundy Thursday service will start at 7 p.m.

Free haircuts for children will be offered on April 7 starting at 10 a.m.
