Colts, Lady Indians qualify for districts
The Marian baseball and Lehighton softball teams qualified for District 11 post-season play with victories on Monday.
BASEBALL
Marian-Mahanoy Area
Marian qualified for the district playoffs with a 5-3 Schuylkill League win over Mahanoy Area.
Nick Kweder paced the Colts with two singles, two runs scored and a RBI, while Mike Cataldo chipped in with two singles and a run scored.
Marian pitcher Luke Stawick had 11 strikeouts, while allowing four walks, and finished with the win.

The Spartans jumped out to a six-run lead and went on to a 8-3 victory over the Olympians in a Schuylkill League Division I contest.
Jon Green had two hits and two RBIs for North Schuylkill, who took advantage of 10 Jim Thorpe errors.
Colton Knox had two hits and scored two runs for the Olympians (1-15, 0-9).

Lehighton exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the fifth to end its MVC baseball game with ES North, 10-0.
Lehighton's AJ Wenrich was 3-for-4 on the day with a triple and three RBIs. He also picked up the win for the Indians (12-4, 5-3 MVC).
Battery-mate Jacen Nalesnik also had two hits, including a triple and a solo homer. Teammate Josh Kern finished with two singles, a run scored and a RBI.

Northwestern-No. Lehigh
The Tigers went off for seven runs in the second frame and eventually held on for the 11-3 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.
Peyton Bachman's two-run home run in the second inning sparked their offense, while Mitchell Snyder finished 3-for-4 with a double and five RBIs.
For Northern Lehigh, (5-12), Trevor Yashur was a perfect 4-for-4 with a triple, while Kyle Schomp, Cody Hallman and Joel Seyler all finished 2-for-4 in the game.
Northwestern improves to 11-6 on the season.

A five-run sixth inning propelled Bangor to a 6-4 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.
Lee Kuntz led the Bombers with two singles and a run scored, while Brett Snyder recorded two singles and a RBI. Teammate Ryan Saylor contributed two singles.
Although suffering the setback on the mound, Bombers' hurler Tyler Svetik struck out 13, while allowing three walks.
Zach Karasek paced the Slaters with two singles and two runs scored, while Ryan Hydock added two singles, a run scored and a RBI.

The Cardinals smacked 10 hits, including four home runs, on their way to a 9-0 shut out win over the Panthers.
Steve Zimmerman had two home runs in the game with three RBIs, while brother Tyler added a solo shot and picked up the mound win with six strikeouts and four walks.
For PV (3-13), Colton Black finished the day 2-for-4 at the plate.

The Blue Raiders' Brett Kosciolek finished with two singles and a run scored, while Derek Rottet added two singles. Teammate Luke Matsago posted a fielder's choice RBI to score Kosciolek with Tamaqua's lone run.
The Cougars' Austin Mosteller recorded a single, a double and a RBI.
Tamaqua slides to 5-11 on the season.

The Lady Bombers improved to 14-3 on the season with a 10-2 win over Bangor in Colonial League action.
After Bangor took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second, they were held scoreless for the remainder of the contest.
Leading the locals offensively were Janel Tracy who went 2-for-4 with a homer, two runs scored and two RBIs, while teammate Sierra Miller was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI. Emily Knauss was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI, while Steph Buck was 2-for-2 with a triple and a run scored.
For Bangor, Devin Mackay scored a run in the losing effort.

After two frames, Weatherly went ahead 11-0, before erupting in the fifth for the final score.
Jaime Dougherty led the offensive firepower with four hits, while Jessica Maiallo had three and Devon Bizarre and Tiana Janetti both added two hits apiece.
For PV (1-14), Bryanna Kehrli had two hits, while Sam Zlock and Georgianna Butler both had a sole hit in the loss.
Weatherly moves to even at 7-7 on the year.

Abbey Hill's RBI-single and Jeanne Cannon's 2-RBI single brought in the winning runs, while Lindsay Nemeth finished with two singles and Gabby Green had a triple.
With the win, Marian moves to 8-7 overall, 4-5 in the league.

Lehighton-Tamaqua
Lehighton defeated Tamaqua, 4-1 in non-league action.
All three of the Indians' singles players, Nick Mantz, James Sverchek and Justin Ziegenfus, won in straight sets. Their doubles team of Steph Slaw/Graham Strauss also won.
Tamaqua's lone win came from the doubles team of CJ Shellhammer/Tyler Krell. The duo won, 6-2, 7-5.

Bangor scored six goals in the first half and ran away from Northern Lehigh, 7-0 in Colonial League play.
Emily Howell recorded a hat-trick and an assist for the Slaters.
Pen Argyl-Northwestern
The Lady Tigers recorded two goals in the first half and went on to win over Pen Argyl, 2-0.
Haylee Kubat opened up the scoring for the locals, off an assist from Sarah Segan, and Segan turned around and scored the other goal eight minutes later.
Sabrina Mertz assisted the Segan score for the locals.
Abby Laubach stopped 12 shots for the Lady Green Knights in the losing effort.
No. Dame ES-Palmerton
Palmerton's Kylee Turko scored three goals for a hat trick, but the Spartans broke away froma halftime deadline for a 4-3 Colonial League win.
Angelica Bertola matched Turko with three goals for Notre Dame of East Sroudsburg. Virginia Pope added the other.
Palmerton had 13 shots on goal.
TRACK
PM West-Lehighton
Lehighton and Pocono Mountain West split in Mountain Valley Conference action on the track and field.
The Lady Indians captured a 91-59 win, while the visiting Panthers came out on top with a 87-63 victory.
Lauren Michalik (110 hurdles, triple jump) and Gwen Remaley (shot put, discus) led the Indians with two first-place finishes, while Jenny Beers (3200 meter), Maris Stern (300 hurdles), Sarah Keer (javelin), Riley Durishin (high jump) and Ciera Kobal (pole vault) added single top honors.
The Indians' Montero Thompson (200 meter), Eric Whiteman (shot put) and Levi Haldeman (discus) all grabbed first-place on the boys' side.

Pleasant Valley swept Pocono Mountain East in its MVC track match on Monday.
The Pleasant Valley girls won by a score of 84.5-65.5. Kelecia Harris won four events yet again for the Lady Bears. She placed first in the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash, the long jump and the triple jump. She was the only girl to win more than two events.
The Bears won 90-60 on the boys' side. Kegan Bray was the only local to win multiple events. He won the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter dashes.

Individually, the girls got two wins in the hurdle events from Alex Hutta, while the Colts got a triple win from Dylan Quirk (100, 200 and high jump), and two wins from Cy Shickora in the shot put and discus.
