Park cleanup
The West End Park & Open Space Commission needs help with roadside clean up of the Regional Park on Saturday, May 5.
Participants are asked to meet at Chestnuthill Park at 8 a.m. Vests and gloves will be provided.

Free Mother's gifts
The invitation is extended to build a humming bird feeder or a painted pot filled with a plant for Mom for free at a Mother's Day Crafts at the Haney/VanBuskirk Park, Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg. The event will take place from noon to 2 p.m., Saturday, May 5.

Business meeting
The West End Rotary Club will hold its monthly breakfast business meeting on Thursday, May 3. The club meets at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville.
150th anniversary
Bishop Samuel Zeiser will join the 150th anniversary Celebratory Service for Zion Lutheran Church being held at the church in Brodheadsville at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 6.
PV Band Concert
The Pleasant Valley High School Band concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 7.
Texas traveler
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church's Assistant Pastor, the Rev. Sean Carpenter, is being sent to San Antonio, Texas by Bishop Bambera for two months this summer to learn Spanish. Upon his return he will be helping to say Mass in Spanish here. For the time he is absent, the church has need to adjust the Mass schedule. Only one Mass will be held each weekday.
The Sunday Mass schedule (including Saturday night) will remain the same. The new Weekday Mass schedule, will run from May 29 through July 30.

Blood pressure facts
The Prime Time Health Calendar includes a program on Blood Pressure Facts at the Chestnuthill Senior Center at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 9. The senior group meets twice a week at Zion Lutheran's Fellowship Hall in Brodheadsville.
Bone Health will be the topic at the Center on May 23.
Special recognition
Dorothy Mohr, director of the Pleasant Valley Choral Society, has recognized those who support the choral society's programs. This past weekend she recognized Barbara and Lennie Whritenour, longtime members, who were visiting from Virginia.
Spelling bee
The Monroe County Spelling Bee will be held from 1-3 p.m., Thursday, May 17, at the Eastern Monroe Public Library. One must register by May 10 by calling (570) 420-3735 or (800) 498-0330.
Hunger event
The 30-hour famine will be held at Effort UMC, by youth, from Friday, May 18, through Sunday, May 20.
The youth are working on plans for the next REACH Mission Trip to Broadline, N.Y. in July. Currently eight adults and 14 youth are planning on going.
