It's not a health issue

Dear Editor:

In response to, "Shame, shame, shame."

What health issue is being undermined by not mandating health insurance providers to cover the cost of contraception? Prevention of pregnancy is not a health issue. On the other hand, pregnancy does have health consequences, and as such is covered by health insurance.

In regard to contraception, there are alternatives widely available, without prescription for women and men to use in order to prevent pregnancy. Access is not limited to the wealthy. It is cheap and readily available. So, what's the problem? Oh, you don't want to pay for it. Well, since that's the real issue, why didn't you say so?

Shame on anyone, using the access to contraception issue as a political issue in order to portray Republicans as anti-women. It is intellectually dishonest.

In addition, no politician can eliminate Planned Parenthood. They can eliminate funding for Planned Parenthood, but not eliminate the organization. So, again, don't let facts get in the way of your social and political agenda. Just paint people who want the government to abide by the Constitution as oppressors of women.
