Marian qualified for the District 11 baseball playoffs with a victory over Weatherly on Thursday.

BASEBALL

Weatherly-Marian

Marian qualified for the district playoffs with a 7-5 Schuylkill League victory over visiting Weatherly.

Dylan Latham and Nick Kweder hit back-to-back singles to start a fifth-inning rally. Frank Nietz recorded an RBI single to score Latham, while Zach Motil delivered a two-run triple to score Nietz and Mike Cataldo and put the Colts up by a run. Motil's courtesy runner, Kyle Rodgers provided an insurance run on a double steal.

Nietz paced the Colts with a single, triple, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Latham added a single, double and a run scored.

The Wreckers' Maiello had a double, homerun, a run scored and a RBI, while Vinny McCray chipped in with two singles and two RBIs.

Marian improves to 9-7 overall and 6-5 in the league.

Pleasant Vy.-Stroudsburg

Stroudsburg used a four-run fourth inning to post a 7-5 Mountain Valley Conference victory over visiting Pleasant Valley.

The Mounties' Bennie keyed the inning with a two-run double and scored on a Stoke's RBI-single.

John Guadagna led the Bears with two singles, a double, a run scored and two RBIs, while Robert Getz added two singles, two runs scored and a RBI. Teammate Howie Stevens finished with two singles.

Pleasant Valley slips to 9-10 overall and 7-5 in the MVC.

Jim Thorpe cruised to a 14-0 Schuylkill League win over Panther Valley.

Pat Duvigneaud led the Olympians with two singles, four runs scored and a walk, while Ian Sterling added a single, two runs scored and two RBIs. Teammate Bryce Micciche contributed a two-run single in the fifth.

Nick McArdle finished with a single and stolen base for the Panthers.

Jim Thorpe moves to 3-17 overall (1-11 in the league), while Panther Valley falls to 3-17 (1-11).

Pottsville-Tamaqua

A seventh-inning rally fell a run short as Tamaqua lost a 7-6 Schuylkill League contest to visiting Pottsville.

With two losses in two days, the Blue Raiders (5-14 overall, 4-7 Schuylkill League) fail to qualify for district as they have just one game left this season.

Dylan Delay led Tamaqua with two doubles, a single, two runs scored and a RBI, while Bo Rottet followed with three singles and a RBI.

Teammates Matt Roberts (two singles), Derek Rottet (two singles, run scored, RBI) and Troy Reinhardt (two singles, two RBIs) contributed as well.

Tamaqua-Pine Grove

Joshua Scheibley scored on a passed ball with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to lift Pine Grove to a 7-6 Schuylkill League win over visiting Tamaqua on Wednesday.

The Cardinals' Ty Zimmerman and Steve Zimmerman hit back-to-back singles to lead off the bottom off the seventh. With two strikes, Brandon Scheibley tied the game with a two-run double, which sent the game into extra innings.

The Blue Raiders' Brett Kosciolek finished with a single, double and three RBIs while Matt Roberts added two singles.

Weatherly-Marian

Marian beat visiting Weatherly, 3-1 in a Schuylkill League game.

The Fillies need one win in their remaining two games to punch their district playoff ticket.

Abbey Hill and Sam Faust both had with three singles and a RBI to lead the Fillies. Teammate Marissa Web recorded two runs scored and a single.

Sara Dolinsky paced the Wreckers with a single, triple and a run scored.

Marian improves to 9-9 on the season. Weatherly falls to 10-8.

Palmerton-No. Lehigh

Martina Herring tossed a complete-game four-hitter to lead Palmerton to a 2-0 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.

Janel Tracy had two hits for the Bombers. Lauren Campbell added a hit and an RBI.

Cassie Toth had a pair of hits for Northern Lehigh. Amber Kibler had a hit and walked twice.

Pleasant Vy.-Stroudsburg

Stroudsburg handed Pleasant Valley its first Mountain Valley Conference setback of the season with a 3-1 victory.

Despite suffering the setback, the Bears' Hailey Marini struck out eight and allowed just five hits.

The Bears' Jordan Meckes had a single and a run scored, while Diane Klapatch added a single and a RBI.

Pleasant Valley drops to 13-5 overall and 10-1 in the conference.

Shenandoah Valley got the best of Panther Valley in a Schuylkill League doubleheader.

The Blue Devils opened with a 5-1 victory over the Panthers, while following that up with a five-inning, 13-3 win in the second game.

In the opening game, Jasmine Wilson and Sam Zlock accounted for the Panthers' lone hits.

In the nightcap, Sara Mary Tucker led the Panthers with a RBI single and a run scored.

Panther Valley slips top 1-19 on the season.
