Ursta named Senior of the Month for April at Weatherly HS

Karlee Ursta, daughter of John and Lori Ursta, Weatherly, has been named Senior of the Month for April at Weatherly Area High School.

Karlee serves as the president of her class and president of the Weatherly Area High School chapter of FBLA, and vice president of the Interact club and the Student Government Association. Karlee has been inducted into the WAHS chapter of the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society, and she is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and is listed in the United States Achievement Academy's "Who's Who Among Honors Students." Karlee is also a member of the high school drama club, the high school band, and the girls' soccer team, and serves as a statistician for the baseball team.

Karlee has won numerous contests and awards, including the American Legion Post 360 Essay Contest, the Creative Communications Essay Contest, the Rotary International Essay Contest, the Elks "Teenager of the Month" and "Teenager of the Year" awards, and the Edgar L. Dessen Community Service Award. Karlee has participated in the Carbon County Oratorical Competition, the Girl Power Computer Program, the "Being and American" essay contest, and the annual Computer Fair, and she has been nominated as a People to People student ambassador and to the National Leadership Forum on Collegiate Success, held at Villanova University.

In the community, Karlee is active in the Pennsylvania Theater of Performing Arts, Hazleton Junior Leadership, and Leadership Carbon. She does volunteer work for the Weatherly Community Library, the Weatherly Pound, and Eckley Miner's Village. In addition, Karlee has been employed at the Weatherly Country Inn for four years.
