May 21, 1982 John Patton delivers a two-out RBI single in the eighth inning to help Marian earn a 7-6 victory over Hazleton in the opening game of the Hughie McGeehan League championship series. Patton's hit to left chases home Tom McGinley with the go-ahead run. Mike Kmetz, who pitches all eight innings, shuts down Hazleton in the eighth to preserve the win. He strikes out nine and walks six. Patton, Kmetz and Tom O'Donnell each finish with two hits while Jim Carrigan adds a solo homer.
