Dorward selected as award winner
Sarah Dorward, a Penn State student majoring in animal sciences, has been selected as a College of Agricultural Sciences Alumni Society Internship Award winner. Dorward is the daughter of Richard and Carla Dorward of Lehighton.
The award, which includes a $760 stipend, was established to encourage students to enroll in internship courses offered within the College of Agricultural Sciences. Winners are chosen on the basis of an internship plan, a final report on the internship, an employer evaluation and a letter of recommendation from the internship course supervisor.
Dorward was a summer intern with Braum's Dairy Farm in Tuttle, Okla. She worked in the bakery plant and on the farm in the calf facility, the intensive care barn and the milk barns.
A graduate of Lehighton Area High School, she holds officer positions in Penn State's Dairy Science Club, Collegiate Cattlewomen, the Coaly Society and Delta Theta Sigma fraternity. In addition, she works on campus in a dairy nutrition research lab.
"The Alumni Society recognizes the importance of on-the-job learning experience to prepare undergraduates for today's competitive job market," says Naomi Knaub, the college's director of alumni relations. "By working as interns, students can establish networks of professional contacts and discover which areas of specialization appeal to them."
