Thanksgiving

A Community Thanksgiving Eve worship service will be held today, at 7 p.m., in Trinity United Church of Christ. Special music will be provided by the Tamaqua High School Jazz Chorale.

The Tamaqua Salvation Army will sponsor a free community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22. Dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The center is located at 105 W. Broad St.

Rush taxes

Rush Township Tax Collector Dolores Walck has announced two changes to her scheduled hours. The tax office will be open on Nov. 28 and Dec. 26, from 10-11 a.m. and from 5-6 p.m.

Tax bills may also be paid by mail during these last two months of 2012, but must be postmarked no later than Dec. 31.

Senior citizens

The Tamaqua Seniors met Nov. 15 at the Tamaqua Community Center with 90 members in attendance. President Jean Machamer conducted the business session and provided an inspirational reading. One new member, Dee Neifert, was welcomed to the group.

Secretary Joan Ann Garber provided her report and the invocation, entitled "Forever Near." Vice President Gerber reported that Rose Vallee, Eleanor Arner and Rose Eick were added to the sick list

The meeting concluded with cards and social games.

Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, the next meeting will be held Nov. 29, at 1 p.m., at the community center. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional and 10:30 a.m. contemporary worship services Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes and the junior and senior membership classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, commission meetings will be held at 11:45 a.m. and a resolution session will be held at 7 p.m.

Activities for next week will include: Monday, drama group meets at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, Good News Club meets at the South Ward Playground at 3:45 p.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare meets at 7 p.m.; Thursday, Men's Fraternity meets at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, musician's rehearsal at 8:30 a.m., praise practice begins at 9:30 a.m.

The Christmas celebration and hanging of the greens service will be held Dec. 1 at 6 p.m.

St. Peter's Union

The Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include the hanging of the greens. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 11:30 a.m.

Next week's schedule will include: Monday, women's Bible study meets at 6 p.m.; Thursday, prayer group meets at 4:45 p.m., junior choir rehearses at 7 p.m. and senior choir rehearses at 7:30 p.m.

First Methodist

The Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. The service will include a Harvest Home celebration and a children's message, offered by Marge Kropp. Sunday school will be held following the message.

Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m., Bible study meets at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Bible study meets at 9:30 a.m., chancel choir will rehearse at 7 p.m.

The hanging of the greens ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1.
