Street sweeper

Weekly street sweeping operations in Tamaqua have been discontinued for the Winter months. The schedule will resume in Spring of 2013. Streets will be posted and notices will be placed in the TIMES NEWS to notify the public.

For more information, call Tamaqua Borough Hall at 570-668-3444. The office is open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

South Ward news

The South Ward Playground is currently closed to the public as volunteers begin the huge project of decorating the park for Santa's arrival. The jolly gent from the North Pole is schedule to arrive on Dec. 16, at approximately 6:30 p.m. The park will be open that evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

Playground officers hope the public will understand the need for the locked gates, especially in light of the vandalism that occurred to last year's Christmas decorations.

Trinity UCC

The Rev. Thomas Reinsel will officiate at the 10 a.m. worship service this Sunday. The service will include Holy Communion and will be followed by a dinner. Sunday school classes meet at 8:45 a.m.

Activities for next week will include: Monday, Bible study at 7 p.m.; Thursday, senior choir rehearsal at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, soup social.

SS. Peter and Paul

The choirs of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church rehearse on Wednesdays. The children's choir meets at 6 p.m. and the adult choir practices at 7 p.m.

Dec. 1 will be a Fatima Saturday. Confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., with a recitation of the rosary and devotions before the 8 a.m. Mass.

The Holy Rosary Society will attend the 8 a.m. Mass on Dec. 2 and receive Holy Communion as a group.

The 2013 children's weekly envelopes can be found in the church vestibule. Extras are available at the rectory.

Plotkeles (Christmas wafers) will be available at all weekend Masses, beginning Dec. 2. They are also available at the rectory.

Calvary Evangelical

The Rev. Dr. Ed Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, a time of praise, worship and Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m.

An hour of praise and prayer is held Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
