The Tamaqua Public Library will offer its Christmas story time session from 6-7:30 p.m. Dec. 13. The session is open to preschool children between the ages of 2-5, but older and younger siblings are also welcome. The evening will include crafts, books, snacks and a special visit from a resident of the North Pole.
Pre-registration is required. To register, or for more information, call (570) 668-4660.
The library is also conducting its semiannual used book sale from now through Dec. 17.
St. Peter's Union
The Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include Holy Communion and the reception of the WASP white gifts. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 1 p.m., the WASP Christmas party will be held at noon and the Daisies, Brownies and Cub Scouts will all meet at 6 p.m.
Activities for next week will include: Thursday, prayer group meets at 4:45 p.m., cherub choir rehearses at 6:30 p.m., junior choir meets at 7 p.m. and the senior choir practices at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Boy Scout Christmas party will be at 2 p.m.
Older and bolder
The Tamaqua Salvation Army's Older and Bolder group meets every Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to noon.
This year's Hand Bell Tour will include stops at Sweet Arrow Lake on Dec. 1; Hometown Nursing Center, Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise and Majestic House on Dec. 4; St. Luke's on Dec. 5; Zion's in Lewistown Valley on Dec. 9; Jim Thorpe Railroad station on Dec. 15 and Union Station, Pottsville, on Dec. 21.

First Methodist
The Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. The service will include Holy Communion, an Advent celebration and a children's message, offered by Marge Kropp.
Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m., Bible study meets at 7 p.m., chancel choir will rehearse at 7 p.m.; Thursday, trustees meeting at 6 p.m., administrative council meets at 7 p.m.; Friday, Bible study session at 10:30 a.m.
The hanging of the greens ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1.
