Tax exemptions

The Schuylkill County and Tamaqua Borough Per Capita and Occupation Tax Exemption Forms for the year 2013 are now available for Borough of Tamaqua residents.

The exemption forms can be obtained at the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 E. Broad St., Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Forms will also be available at tax collector Alan Kerr's office, the Tamaqua Area School District Administration building, the Tamaqua ABC High Rise, Majestic House Apartment Complex, the Tamaqua Public Library and the Tamaqua Post Office.

Residents must complete the form each year to qualify for the tax exemption.

Exoneration forms must be submitted by Friday, Jan. 25, 2012.

West Penn holidays

The Sixth Annual West Penn Township Tree Lighting ceremony will be held this Saturday at the township annex building. Festivities will begin at 5 p.m. and will include Christmas carols, a reading of the Christmas story and a special visit from Santa.

The annex is located on the Ridge Cup (SR309) at the intersection with Municipal Road.

Cookies and hot cocoa will be served. The public is welcome to attend.

Street sweeper

Weekly street sweeping operations in Tamaqua have been discontinued for the winter months. The schedule will resume in spring of 2013. Streets will be posted and notices will be placed in the TIMES NEWS to notify the public.

For more information, call Tamaqua Borough Hall at (570) 668-3444. The office is open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Trinity UCC

The Rev. Thomas Reinsel will officiate at the 10 a.m. worship service this Sunday. The service will include an Ingathering celebration and will be followed by a coffee hour at 11 a.m. Sunday school classes meet at 8:45 a.m.

Activities for next week will include: Monday, Bible study at 7 p.m.; Thursday, senior choir rehearsal at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, prayer shawl meeting at 1 p.m.

Zion Lutheran

The Rev. Jeffrey Kistler will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. Sunday school classes will meet at 8:30. A time of coffee and conversation will be held at 11 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.

Activities for next week include: Tuesday, Scouts meet at 6 p.m., property committee meets at 6 p.m., finance committee meets at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, Rejoice and Sing Choir rehearses at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Advent breakfast at 8:30 a.m., Luminaria night at 6 p.m.

A congregational meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Dec. 9.
