Golden Agers
During the last meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers guest speakers Bernadette Krajcirik, RN and Jen Joseck, RN of Bayada Home Health Care made a presentation about the services offered through the agency. All referrals to the agency must be made by a physician or health care provider.
The Hospitality Committee for November and December will be Shirley Pavlick, Joanne Large and Dee Neifert.
Frank Karnish provided highlights of the recent Golden Agers' sponsored Alaska trip and Alex and Helen Makita were congratulated on their 65th wedding anniversary.
Names are being taken for the Christmas party on Nov. 19 and dues are now being collected.
The next meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 22 beginning at 1 p.m. at St. John''s Slovak Lutheran Social Hall. Halloween dress-up is encouraged.
Lansford
St. John Lutheran
Tonight at 7 p.m., St. John's Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, will hold an informal worship. This will be a spiritual, peaceful, evening service with Holy Communion. All are welcome to this relaxed, brief, musical, evening prayer. For those who wish to come early, a free simple supper is served at 6 p.m., followed by a brief adult Bible study and confirmation program at 6:30. For more information call the Rev. Children's Halloween Party
The Nesquehoning Recreation Committee will be holding a Children's Halloween Party on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 5 p.m. at the Recreation Center.
Nesquehoning residents can sign-up their children on Wednesday evenings during Bingo.
Crime Watch meeting
The next Nesquehoning Crime Watch meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 29 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Borough Hall. There will be a guest speaker at this meeting. Anyone interested in joining is encouraged to attend.
VFW Ladies Auxiliary
The regular monthly meeting of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial Post 8008 was held on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at the Post Home with President Amanda Breiner presiding. Information on the Voice of Democracy, Patriots Pen and Wreaths Across America programs were received and a thank-you letter for the Unmet Needs donation was read.
Members were urged to vote in the Nov. 6 election and several reported on contact with legislators regarding various issues.
The Voice of Democracy Essay Program is presently under way at Panther Valley High School.
The Veterans Day Buddy Poppy weekend will be Nov. 2-3 at Redner's Market.
Campbell's Soup labels and box tops are being collected by the VFW National Home and Gertrude Hawk sheets are due by Oct. 31.
The annual Veterans Day Parade will be hosted by Palmerton on Sunday, Nov. 11 and the auxiliary will be represented.
The annual Children's Christmas Party will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Post Home. More details will be provided next month.
The annual Auxiliary Christmas Party will be held at Lengyel's Restaurant on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 5 p.m.
The next meeting will be held Tuesday, Nov. 13 at the Post Home beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Coaldale
Lions to meet
The Coaldale Lions will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at the Viennese Villa in town. The meeting will start at 5:45 p.m. A guest at the meeting will be District 14-U Lions zone chairman Larry Williams. Vice President Sylvester Vavra will preside.
Summit Hill
Food Pantry
The Summit Hill Food Pantry will be open on Tuesday, Oct. 23 from 10 a.m. to noon. The food pantry is located in the Summit Hill Heritage Center on Hazard and Chestnut streets. There is to be no parking in the alley prior to 9:45 a.m. Recipients are reminded to bring along shopping bags.
Shade Tree Commission
The Summit Hill Shade Tree Commission will be conducting its fall tree plantings along the borough streets on Friday, Oct. 26 and Saturday, Oct. 27. Any borough residents or businesses interested in having a tree planted in front of their property may call John Kupec at (570) 645-9644 or Lou Vermillion at 645-9772 for information. Memorial trees will also be planted.
Donations toward the cost of the trees will be accepted. Trees will be ordered in mid-October. Volunteers on the planting days are always welcome as well as contributions to the Shade Tree Commission's efforts.
Historical society meeting
The Summit Hill Historical Society will hold a meeting tonight at 7 p.m. in the museum at 136 W. Ludlow St.
