Black out bullying

Next Friday, Oct. 26, the Tamaqua and Minersville Area School Districts will be cooperating in an effort to address the issue of bullying, while competing on the football field.

Teams, cheerleaders and support staff on both sides of the playing field will have the color black incorporated into their uniforms as part of the two districts "Black Out Bullying Campaigns." Parents, guardians and fans are encouraged to also wear black that evening in support of the effort to raise awareness to the cause.

"Bullying is a national issue that demotes self worth and promotes adversarial relationships. By bringing awareness and working with another school district, our hope is to educate and then substantially reduce bullying and its effect on our students," notes a press release jointly issued by the schools' principals, Stephen Toth of Tamaqua and Carl McBreen of Minersville.

Donations toward the Schuylkill County Youth Conference, which provides programs to Schuylkill County youth, will be accepted during the game.
