Prothonotary's report
A total of 349 cases were started August in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of the cases is as follows:
Civil actions, 37; custody complaints, 22; district justice appeals, 2; declaratory judgment, 1; divorce complaints, 24; ejectment complaints, 2; equity action, 1; license appeal, 1; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 39; miscellaneous, 5; protection from abuse petitions, 41; judgments, 166; stipulations/waivers of liens, 7; and writ of execution, 1. The office staff also received and processed 73 applications for U.S. Passports.
Behrens' financial report shows $32,054.28 was generated as follows: prothonotary's fees, $26,687.58; interest income, $2.90; PFA Surcharge, courts, $25; PFA Surcharge, Sheriff, $25; custody fees, $600; and data processing fees, $4,713.80.
The prothonotary also remitted $3,754.70 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $54 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $1,094 was deposited in the Prothonotary's Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
