PIC meets
Pride in Chestnuthill (PIC) announces that the time is here for the annual Chestnuthill Township Beautification Award. This honor is given to a business in the township for its outstanding beautification of the property.
Previous winners not only had a clean, well-kept property, but also planted a host of different beautiful annual flowers.
The next PIC meeting will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 13, at the Chestnuthill Township Municipal Building on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.
Rotary speaker
Laura Goss of the Pocono Arts Council will be the featured speaker at the 7:30 a.m. breakfast meeting of the West End Rotary on Thursday at the Western Pocono Community Library.
PV School Board
The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday at the district office in Brodheadsville.
Contemporary service
The Praise Band of Effort UMC will lead a contemporary worship service at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 16. It will last about 45 minutes, since it is sandwiched between two regular worship services, at 8:30 and 11 a.m.
Diversity Task Force
Pleasant Valley's Diversity Task Force will meet from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 18, in the district office.
Open house
Pleasant Valley Middle School in Brodheadsville will hold its open house from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 18.
Touch of Home meets
The next regular meeting of Operation: Touch of Home will be 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 18 at the American Legion in Gilbert.

Alzheimer's presentation
Tamara Bortree, family service coordinator for Alzheimer's Association, will present a program on 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer's at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 21, at the Chestnuthill Senior Center. Lunch that day is sloppy joes.
On Friday, Sept. 14, the menu calls for vegetable lasagna and on Friday, Sept. 19. the luncheon meal is Chicken Cordon Bleu.
The group's meetings begin at 9 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville and continue through to early afternoon.
UMW Ingathering
Effort UMC UMW members will travel to First Church of Bangor for the annual Northeast District UMW meeting and Ingathering, being held on Saturday, Sept. 22. The church has served as host for the annual event in the past.
Pet blessing
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will hold a Pet Blessing at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 29.
Zion Lutheran will have a Pet Blessing also, but at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 30.
West End 4-H
The Insects Are Us 4-H club is seeking new members to explore these fascinating tiny creatures. The club usually meets the second Friday evening and fourth Saturday morning of the month in Brodheadsville.
Congratulations are extended to all the 4-H members who won ribbons at the West End Fair. Sherri Abruzzi, 4-H Youth development educator, accepted a certificate acknowledging and celebrating 100 years of 4-H in Pennsylvania at the West End Fair.
All 4-H clubs and members look forward to fall 4-H Achievement Night which is the year-end celebration of members' accomplishments. There are many 4-H clubs in Monroe County; Insects Are Us is just one of them.

Flu clinic
The 2012 flu clinic schedule for the Monroe County Senior Centers has been released.
The Chestnuthill Senior Center clinic will be held Friday, Oct. 5, from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $30, but for those who have Medicare Part B, there is no charge for the vaccination. Those having a different insurance, may be able to send in a receipt for reimbursement.
For those who are in the high risk category, do not have insurance, and cannot afford to pay, a free vaccine voucher may be available.
