In regard to the announcement of the flu shots available at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville at the Monroe Seniors meeting on Friday, Oct. 5, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., the clinic is available to anyone over the age of 18 and not just seniors, according to Kate Koehler at Prime Time of Monroe County.

The winner is ...
The Monroe County Waste Authority has announced that Brandon Percey of Effort won the grand prize, a Kindle Fire, at the Authority's weeklong stay at the West End Fair. He is an 11th grader at PVHS.
The Authority also detailed its weeklong collection of 3,160 pounds of cardboard and 1,240 pounds of plastics. All this material was recycled by the various vendors and fair attendees.
Free meals
Our Lady Queen of Peace offers both a free lunch and a free community supper for those in need.
The luncheon is offered every third Wednesday of the month at 12:30 p.m. in McCawley Hall. The next one is set for Oct. 17.
The suppers are offered the second Sunday of each month, from 3-4 p.m., in McCawley Hall. The next one taking place is set for Sept. 23.

Altar & Rosary
The Altar and Rosary Society of Our Lady Queen of Peace will meet at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 19, in McCawley Hall.
Attendees are invited to bring a donation for the baby shower being held for unborn babies.
Lions' speaker
The Western Pocono Lions will next meet on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Old Mill Pizza Restaurant on Route 209 in Sciota. The program for the evening will be presented by Dawn Shier, Van Langkamer and Randy Roberts of Homewatch Caregivers.
Gathering time begins at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting beginning at 7 p.m. Meals of choice will be ordered from the menu. Visitors are always welcome.

Business meeting
The West End Rotary Club will not have a special speaker this Thursday, Sept. 20 when it holds its weekly club meeting. Instead, it is a Club Assembly meeting where the club's business is the agenda for the morning.
Alzheimer's speaker
Chestnuthill Seniors will have a special speaker on the 10 Warning Signs of Alzheimer's at the group's Sept. 21 meeting at Zion Lutheran Fellowship Hall in Brodheadsville. The speaker is Tamara Bortree, family service coordinator for the Alzheimer Association.
Although her presentation is set for 11:30 a.m., the group gathers at 9 a.m.
Lioness meet
The Western Pocono Lioness Club won first place for its display at the West End Fair. The next regular meeting of the club is Sept. 25. Anyone interested in joining is asked to come to that evening's meeting, beginning at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Post Home on Route 209 in Gilbert.
A covered dish supper begins the September meeting. It will be followed by the speaker Cindy Starner from the Center for Vision Loss. This is one of the many organizations that the Lioness Club supports each year.

Blood drive
The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive in the West End area on Friday, Sept. 28, at the American Legion Post home on Route 209.
The hours of the drive are from 1:30-6 p.m.
