Garden of Giving
Spring work has begun at the Garden of Giving in McMichaels. Onions and asparagus were planted and the beds have been prepped for the upcoming season. Seeds are at the Monroe County Career and Technical Institute and should be sprouting soon.
This will be the fifth year the Garden of Giving is providing fresh produce and eggs to Monroe County families in need. On the agenda is the Second Annual Fill the Truck event on April 20, from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. in Brodheadsville at Tractor Supply.
Anticipated is getting the much needed tractor to work the garden with support from Charles S. Snyder, Inc., and New Holland Tractors.
The Garden of Giving is in need of volunteers to help in the office, serve on the board, (especially anyone with a financial background to serve as a treasurer), and help in the garden, as well as donations of supplies and funding to purchase what is needed for the garden and chickens that are now part of the outreach project.
The Garden of Giving offers opportunities for youth and Scouting groups to learn about gardening, science, health, nutrition, and many other valuable life skills and lessons as they volunteer there. For more information call (570) 402-1282 or visit thegardenofgiving.org.
