Think finding a job isn't tough?
A McDonald's Restaurant in Massachusetts now requires prospective employees to have a college degree.
Also, before they can work the cash register, they must have one year's experience in that area somewhere else or they won't even be considered for the job.
The Mickey Mouse Club's and beach movie queen, Annette Funicello, died this week at age 70. When she was a Mouseketeer back in the 1950s, viewed on the old Philco 18-inch black-and-white TV screen, she was the first heart throb of almost every pre-teen youngster in America, this one included.
If you're not a fan of the comics, then you're not a true newspaper reader. Comics are as big a part of the daily newspaper as the front page banner headlines. Here are my favorites, not in any neccessary order: Hagar the Horrible, Hi and Lois, Nancy, Beetle Bailey, Blonde, The Born Loser, Frank and Ernest, Garfield, and Ziggy. I wouldn't miss any of them every day.

Actor Wesley Snipes of "White Men Can't Jump" and "Blade" fame, was released from prison after serving time for income tax evasion. It will be interesting to see if he gets any more big movie rolls now that he's paid his debt to society.
Some things never change. I like to sit down in the evening and watch reruns of M*A*S*H, the TV classic about the functioning of the people in a mobile Army surgical hospital during the Korean War in the 1950s. Then I switch over to the national news and it's reported that North Korea continues to rattle their sabers, threatening to make war on South Korea and the U.S. again. Sixty-some odd years haven't changed anything.
A new report says airline passenger complaints rose 20 percent last year as carriers keep shrinking seats to squeeze more people into planes. Glad I'm not planning a flight in the near future. Bet you most of those complaints came from robust guys like me.
A sign of the times. All portrait studios at Sears and Wal-Mart are closing, according to news reports. Those studios have been a stable at those stores for more than 50 years. Remember when Mom and Dad got the whole family all dolled up and carted them on to Sears for the annual family portrait? I guess people with digital cameras no longer feel the need to go to portrait studios.
Even though the Yankees and Phillies got off to a rough start this season, I'm still happy to see baseball on the tube every day. And, hope springs eternal. After all, it's only April and 162 games is a long season.
"42" The Jackie Robinson Story, hit theaters yesterday. It's already on my "must see" list.
Because of the popularity of smart phones and tablets, the art of typing may soon become a part of the past. Already, many schools have given up on typing classes as fewer and fewer traditional keyboards are being used. Traditional typing will follow cursive writing out the door.
In case you didn't notice, but while we were enjoying 75 degree weather this week, the midwest, from Wyoming to Chicago, were getting socked with a major snowstorm. Better them than us.

A sure sign that winter has passed. The Masters golf tournament is being played this week in Augusta. I can almost smell the magnolia blossoms as I watch the coverage.
