Helping Community

In response to the recent Ross Township tragedy, a special West End Community health event will focus on helping the community. The event, organized by PMC Community Health Connections, will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 19 at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville. Speakers will be from Pocono Medical Center and the community.

Vets group begins

A Veterans Support Group has begun at the American Legion Post Home as of Tuesday, Aug. 20. It will meet monthly at 7 p.m., on the third Tuesday of the month.

The group is for veterans who suffer from the psychological scars of war or combat stress. Its mission is to improve the lives of veterans by providing free access to coaching and care that will address service-connected conditions and improve life skills for work and life outside of service.

It is being led by Glen Lippincott, a combat-wounded Vietnam veteran.

Lions meet

The Western Pocono Lions Club meets Wednesday, Aug. 21, at The Old Mill Pizza on Route 209 in Sciota. The club and guests will gather at 6:30 p.m.; the meeting will begin at 7. The guest speaker for the evening will be Lions District 14U Governor Lizanne McElwee. If the parking lot is full, Lions and guests can park on the grass next to the building.

Business meeting

The West End Rotary Club will hold its monthly club assembly at the club's 7:30 a.m. breakfast meeting, Thursday, Aug. 22.

The club meets at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville.

Seniors meet

The Monroe Seniors group of the West End will meet again at 9 a.m., Friday, Aug. 23. The group will continue to meet at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28 and Friday, Aug. 30, despite fair week, which runs from this coming Sunday through Saturday, Aug. 31.

Movie time

The Western Pocono Community Library will offer "Late Bloomers" at its 1 p.m. movie showing, on Friday, Aug. 23.

Knit & Crochet

Zion Lutheran Church's Knit & Crochet group will meet at 1 p.m., on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at the church.

Fairview Seniors

State Rep. Mike Carroll is slated to speak at the Fairview Seniors 10 a.m. meeting on Aug. 27.

The group meets at the Chestnuthill Township Park Building in Brodheadsville.

Three-item meeting

The Western Pocono Lioness will have a triple header at the club's Aug. 27 meeting.

The evening is the club's Ice Cream Social, which begins at 6 p.m.

There will be a mini fashion show, courtesy of Dressbarn, one of the outfit providers for the Lioness Sept. 25 Fashion Show.

Leos Nina Giambalvo and Rosanna Ponce, whom the club sent to the Monroe County Conservation Camp this summer, will also give a summary of what they did on their time there.

The meeting will be held at the American Legion Post Home in Gilbert.
