100th Eagle Scout

Boy Scout Troop 98 has met a milestone as the troop had its 100th Eagle Scout approved by the Pocono District Eagle Board. Boy Scout Dayne Coleman is the honoree. Stories of some of those 100 Eagle Scouts are part of the Troop 98's display at the West End Fair.

Prayer Shawl ministry

Effort UMC's Prayer Shawl Group will meet at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 3, to weave their give-away gifts to those who are hurting, whether due to illness, varieties of loss, or whatever the need may be.

Schools begin

Although all Pleasant Valley School District students will be back to school on Tuesday, Sept. 3, new elementary school students were welcomed to the school with a breakfast from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Monday, Aug. 26. Teachers have been in school several days.

Friday Feature

The Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville, will present the movie "The Last Stand" at 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 30.

Helping habitat

McMichaels UMC has many outreach or service programs, including its aluminum can collection that benefits Habitat for Humanity. All profits from that program go to the Monroe County Habitat.

Rally Day

Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville will hold Rally Day on Sunday, Sept. 8. More information will be forthcoming.

PVEN needs

According to Our Lady Queen of Peace Church personnel, the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network is in need of cereal, canned vegetables, men's sweat pants, and new or gently-used sneakers for children and teens.

Donations, including food and clothing, can be taken to the PVEN Community Service Center Tuesdays and Fridays, 9-11:30 a.m., and other times by appointment by calling the service center at (570) 992-3136.

Free dinner

Veterans with proof of service can get a complimentary dinner at the Military Appreciation Pig/Pork Roast being held at the American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert, Saturday, Sept. 14. Others must pay.
