Goodwill drive

Tamaqua area Girl and Boy Scouts are sponsoring a donation drive to benefit the Keystone Area Goodwill. The event will be held from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John United Church of Christ, 150 Pine St., Tamaqua.

Goodwill accepts donations of new and gently used clothing, household items and furniture. They do not accept air conditioners, recalled items, dehumidifiers, hazardous and/or household chemicals, infant furniture, kerosene heaters, large appliances, large exercise equipment, lawn mowers, mattresses, small engines, televisions, tires and weapons due to safety concerns. Goodwill's mission is to support persons with disabilities and other barriers to independence in achieving their fullest potential as workers and as members of the broader community.

Donated items may be taken to the church parking lot, located to the rear of the church.

Owl Creek Christmas

Tamaqua's Owl Creek Reservoir Commission will host "An Owl Creek Christmas With Santa" from noon until 4 p.m. Saturday at the reservoir on Owl Creek Road, Tamaqua.

Children in attendance will be eligible for toy and bike giveaways. The kitchen will be open and there will be a fire for roasting marshmallows.

Rain date will be Sunday, Dec. 15, same time and place.

SS. Peter and Paul

The Youth Choir of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church will rehearse from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday. The adult choir rehearses from 7-8 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Christmas services will include: Christmas Eve Masses at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.; Christmas Day Masses at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.; New Year's Eve Mass at 7 p.m.; New Year's Day Masses at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

St. Peter's Union

Sunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. This Sunday's service will include installation of church and cemetery board members. Sunday school classes will meet at practice for the Christmas program.

Also on Sunday, the church board will meet 10:45 a.m., the Confirmation class will meet at 1 p.m. and Daisies, Brownies, Brownies and Cub Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.

Activities for next week will include: Wednesday, preschool Christmas program will be presented at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, prayer group meets at 4:45 p.m., cherub choir rehearses at 6:30 p.m., junior choir rehearsal at 7 p.m., senior choir practices at 7:30 p.m.

The Christmas Cantata will be presented on Dec. 22 during the 9 a.m. worship service.

Zion Lewistown

The Rev. Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. The Jacob Brothers will provide special music. The youth group and Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.

The annual Christmas party will be held following the worship service.

Calvary Evangelical

The Rev. Dr. Edward Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include placing ornaments on the sanctuary Christmas tree. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the annual Christmas party will be held following the morning worship service.

An hour of praise and prayer will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

On Dec. 22, the Sunday school program will be presented at 6:30 p.m.
