Taxes won't go up because of teacher salaries

Published February 09. 2013 09:02AM

Dear Editor,

The Lehighton Area Education Association would like to clarify to the public that taxes will NOT be raised to satisfy step and column movement plus an improvement to the salary schedule.

We are aware of Carbon County taxes going up. Over 60 percent of the teachers live in the district (and many more live within Carbon County), so we do not want both county as well as school taxes to rise.

The possibility of school taxes going up is based on the building project, not the teacher contract.

Thank you,

The members of the LAEA
