PVHS winners

Pleasant Valley FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) competitors did so well at the Region 21 FBLA Conference held at East Stroudsburg University in mid-December that 28 of the students who won are eligible to go on to the state FBLA competition.

St. Nick Project

Effort UMC's annual Christmas outreach, the St. Nick Project, begun years ago by the late Rev. Jerry Miller, touched the lives of at least 35 families in need, comprised of over 130 adults and children.

Don and Linda Ernst of McMichaels again chaired this outreach.

TLC Mom's Group

The TLC Mom's Group's next meeting at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is set for 9:45 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3. If there is a delay of school or cancellation, the meeting is rescheduled for the following Thursday.

Band parents meet

The Pleasant Valley Band Parents will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 3, at the high school.

Lions celebrate

The Western Pocono Lions Club celebrated Christmas at its last meeting, held at The Willow Tree in Stroudsburg.

Lions Pat Buccieri and Cindy Rodenbaugh were chairpersons of the event.

The club will hold its next meeting at 6:30 p.m., Jan. 16, at Old Mill Pizza on Route 209 in Sciota. Special guests will be District 14U Governor Angie Mims and her partner in service her husband Ken.

The club's board of directors will meet at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 2, at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville. All Lions are welcome.

During December the Lions did two service projects. On Dec. 1, they helped the Lioness Club with the Breakfast with Santa and several members, including Jon Evans, Linda and Jeff Hinton, Tom West, Chris Sweeney, Joanne and Charles Rush, rang the bell for the Salvation Army.

Epiphany celebrated

Effort UMC and other area churches will celebrate Epiphany Sunday on Jan. 6. Worship services will be held at 8:30 and 11 a.m.

The church also offers a Saturday evening service. The first New Year one will be at 5 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 5.

Pocono Pandas

Effort UMC Youth Group, the Pocono Pandas, will be on a winter retreat on Jan. 11 at Pocono Plateau.

Middle school PAC/PTO

The Pleasant Valley Middle School PAC/PTO meeting is set for 9 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 9.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Our Lady Queen of Peace Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Jan. 12, in the church's Teen Room. Anyone planning to attend should call Dori at (610) 681-6137, ext. 17.

Knit & Crochet

Zion Lutheran's Knit & Crochet group will meet at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 8.

Triple time

Due to possible winter weather situations, the Western Pocono Lioness Club will hold its board of directors meeting as part of the regular meeting in January and February.

The schedule calls for a board meeting at 4 p.m., the club social hour at 5 p.m. and the member meeting at 6 p.m.

The January meeting is set for Jan. 22 at the American Legion Post home on Route 209 in Gilbert.

The Lioness Club has been invited to join the Western Pocono Lions Club at its Jan. 16 meeting as the District Governor will make her visit formal visit to the Lions Club that evening.

Senior Moments

The senior group meeting at Our Lady Queen of Peace, Senior Moments, will meet at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 23. The group meets for lunch and fellowship.

A nutrition class demonstration will be presented.
