Board meeting
The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education is scheduled to meet at 8 p.m., Thursday, June 13, in the district office in Brodheadsville.
Movie night
Effort UMC's Youth Group, Pocono Pandas, will have movie night on Friday, June 14, beginning at 7 p.m.
PV commencement
The Pleasant Valley High School commencement will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, June 14. It is the last day of school for the year.
Tennis event
On Saturday, June 15, from 10 a.m. until noon at the Pleasant Valley Middle School courts, the West End Park & Open Space Commission will sponsor a free tennis festival. Professional instructors will be available for drills and instructions. Equipment is provided.
Pet adoption
Safe Haven Pet Rescue will hold an adoption day from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., Sunday, June 16, at Tractor Supply, Route 209, Brodheadsville.
Safe Haven will have many young dogs available for folks to meet and get to know. Safe Haven requires a pre-adoption application with references and a home visit before adoption.
Safe Haven Pet Rescue is a small group of volunteers who save highly adoptable dogs from high kill and overcrowded shelters and finds them loving homes. Volunteers are needed to help with adoption days, fundraising, transporting dogs to vets and groomers and fostering homeless dogs until they find their forever homes.

Air show
West End Wings is holding its 35th annual Father's Day Air Show on Sunday, June 16, beginning at 1 p.m. Admission is free.
The show will take place at the West End Wings Air Field off Route 715 on the Effort-Neola Road. Signs will help direct visitors to the airfield. The rain date is Sunday, June 23.
The club is a Sport Model Airplane and Helicopter Club dedicated to the art of radio controlled flying and building.
The show is being held in memory of Neal Bond.
The club meets at 2 p.m. the first Sunday of each month at the field. There is no meeting next month due to the Fourth of July holiday.
Visitors are welcome to check out the hobby any time the gate is open. Most weekends, if the weather is conducive, someone is there.
Area VBS session
Vacation Bible School dates have been announced by several area churches. Among them: Zion United Lutheran, June 24-28, 9:30 a.m. until noon, theme: Forever Loving You; St. Peter's UMC, Saylorsburg, July 15-19, 9 a.m. until noon, theme: Kingdom Rocks; Effort UMC, Aug. 5-9, theme: Kingdom Rocks.
Library guest
The Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville, will welcome local author Denise Smale for programs at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on June 19.
Officer installation
The Western Pocono Lions Club will meet Wednesday, June 19, for a regular club meeting at The Old Mill Pizza on Route 209, Sciota at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. The guest speaker will be District Governor-elect Lizanne McElwee, who will install club officers for the coming program year.
The club will also honor the Lion of the Year. Member spouses, significant others or friends are invited.
