Penance Service
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, will hold a Lenten Penance Service at 7 p.m., Wednesday.
Rotary speaker
Dr. Peter Casale will be the featured speaker at Thursday's meeting of the West End Rotary Club. He will speak about National Kidney Month.
The club meets at the Western Pocono Community Library on Pilgrim Way at 7:30 a.m.
It will hold its Club Assembly via email after the monthly board meeting, set for 6 p.m. Thursday at Mangia Baby (and the Fellowship Club meeting that starts at 5 p.m. at the same location), or members can watch their inbox for details.
Zion Seniors
The next meeting of the Zion Seniors (for those over 50) will be at 11 a.m., Thursday. Participants must bring a sandwich for lunch. Beverages are provided.
Monroe Seniors
This group, which also meets at Zion in Brodheadsville, will meet at 9 a.m., Friday, March 22; Wednesday, March 27; and again Friday, March 29.
Meetings continue in April.
Pocono Pandas
Effort UMC's Youth Group, known as the Pocono Pandas, will meet from 7-9 p.m. Friday.
Palm Sunday Mass
Our Lady Queen of Peace will offer several Palm Sunday Masses on March 24. Times are 8 and 10 a.m., noon, and a Spanish Mass at 1:30 p.m.
Effort services
Palm Sunday services will be held at Effort UMC at 8:30 and 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 24. The 11 o'clock service will include an Easter cantata.
Effort United Methodist Church will host a shared meal of bread and soup at 6 p.m., March 28, Maundy Thursday, and a worship service at 7 p.m.
Zion services
Zion Lutheran will hold Passion Sunday services at 8 and 10:30 a.m., Sunday, March 24. The services will include a procession with palms and the Sacrament of Holy Communion.
On Maundy Thursday, a service will be held at 7:30 p.m. and will include the Sacrament of Holy Communion and the Stripping of the Altar.
St. Peter's service
A Maundy Thursday service will be held at St. Peter's UMC, Saylorsburg, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 27. The service will include Holy Communion.
Fairview Seniors
At the Tuesday, March 26, meeting of the Fairview Seniors, the speaker will be from PPL. The topic will be: Power to Make a Difference. The group meets at Chestnuthill Park, Route 715, Brodheadsville.
Republican Club
The West End Republican Club's next meeting is Tuesday, March 26 at Luna Rossa Restaurant on Route 209. Dinner is at 6 p.m. and the formal meeting beginning at 7 p.m. For more information visit www.WestEndgop.com.
Senior Moments
This group, at Our Lady Queen of Peace, will meet at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 27, in McCawley Hall for lunch and fellowship. The focus is Holy Week Prayer.
PVEN Service
A Good Friday ecumenical worship service will be held at 1 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville.
The Ecumenical Network is supported by 16 West End and area churches in joint efforts to help alleviate distress of hurting families.
4-H members sought
The Insects Are Us 4-H Club continues to seek new members. The club, a West End unit, usually meets the second Friday evening and fourth Saturday morning of the month. For information call the Penn State Cooperative Extension at (570) 421-6430.
PIC Clean up
Weather permitting, the Pride in Chestnuthill (PIC) group will be doing litter cleanups on April 6 and 20. Other dates and more information can be found at www.gacofpa.org.
Participants will meet at the Chestnuthill Township municipal building on Route 715 at 7 a.m. Rain dates will be April 13 and 27. The group does not pick up in rain, snow or temperatures below 45 degrees at 7 a.m. on the day of the event.
All should wear brightly-colored rugged clothing and footwear. Children below 13 are not permitted. Children 13-18 must be accompanied by a parent.
Any PVHS students and their parents who are using Community Service as their graduation project are welcome.
