Electronic recycling
Due to new regulations, residents of Tamaqua are no longer able to place old electronic devices out for curbside pick up on trash day. To alleviate the hardship this has caused Advanced Green Solutions Inc. will hold a free electronic recycling event from 8 a.m. until noon, May 18 at the Tamaqua Transfer Station, 20 Sewer Plant Road, Tamaqua.
Items to be collected and recycled include: televisions, telephones, cell phones, keyboards, cables, cords, CRT monitors, copiers, printers, fax machines, stereos, speakers, DVD players, VCRs, video game systems, LCD monitors, word processors, hard drives, desktop/laptop computers and other miscellaneous electronics equipment.

Rush-Ryan seniors
The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met April 23 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 49 members in attendance and one guest Phyllis Bergman. President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business session. Chaplain Kathleen Valentine provided the invocation.
Reports were offered by treasurer Shirley Becker and secretary Gloria Gerhard. Julia and Barb Clauser were welcomed back.
Birthday greetings were extended to Neal Flexer, Gladys Arner and Danny Metzger. A birthday cake was donated in honor of Danny's birthday.
The next meeting is the May 14 anniversary dinner. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, at the fire company.
Older and Bolder
The Salvation Army's Older and Bolder group meets every Wednesday at the Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St. Meetings include a light luncheon.

Veterans help
A representative from the Disabled American Veterans will be available once a month at Tamaqua Borough Hall to offer free veteran's claim service for veterans as well as widows and dependent children of veterans. Information and assistance will be provided for service connected disability claims, low income pension, health care claims for service connected disabilities and low income veterans and other questions concerning veterans' benefits.
The representative will be at Tamaqua Borough Hall, 320 E. Broad St., May 13, June 10 and July 8.
YMCA preschool
The Tamaqua YMCA is accepting applications for the 2013-2014 school year. Classes are available for ages 3, 4 and 5. For more information, call (570) 668-2903 or stop in at the Y on East Broad Street.
St. John UCC
Sunday worship services are held at 9:30 a.m. in St. John United Church of Christ. Sunday school classes begin at 11 a.m.
The choir will rehearse at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
First Methodist
The Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. A children's message will be presented by Marge Kropp. Children's Sunday school will meet following the children's message.
Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, chancel choir rehearses at 7 p.m.
St. Peter's Union
The Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship services Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The Sunday school class will meet at 10:15 a.m.; the Confirmation class will meet at 11:30 a.m.; the Emmaus Walk will be held at 1 p.m.; and the Scouts Blue and Gold Banquet will be held at 5 p.m.; Daisies and Brownies will meet at 6 p.m.
Activities for next week include: Monday, Bible study session at 6 p.m.; Wednesday, 10 a.m. retirees; Thursday, prayer group meets at 4:45 p.m., cherub choir will rehearse at 6:30 p.m.
The junior and senior choirs will rehearse on Wednesday next week: junior choir at 6 p.m. and senior choir at 7:30 p.m.
Calvary Methodist
The Rev. Dr. Edward Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. service Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school for all ages will be held at 9:15 a.m. Also on Sunday, an evening service on Bible prophecy will be held at 6:30 pm.
An hour of praise and prayer will be held at 7 p.m. next Wednesday.
Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional service Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, and at a contemporary service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m. at the church.
Also on Sunday, the ministry council will meet at 1 p.m. and a Prayer Walk at 6 p.m. at ABC Hi-Rise service.
Activities for next week will include: Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m., 8 p.m. Tamaqua Ministry staff meeting, Friday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry lock in at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry lock in at 9 a.m. and musician practice at 8:30 a.m., praise rehearsal will be held at 9:30 a.m.
