Crime tips

The Tamaqua Safety Initiative will host a landlord/property management training session twice on May 30. Times will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Tamaqua Community Art Center, 125 Pine St.

"Big Time Crime: A Strategy for Small Cities and Towns" will be presented through the generosity of LISC - Local Initiatives Support Corporation, which is dedicated to helping neighbors build communities.

Featured speaker will be Timothy Vance of Housing Crimes Consultants, Inc. Additional information and materials will be provided by the Schuylkill County District Attorney's Office, St. Luke's Rural Health Clinics and the Marchalk law firm.

Electronic recycling

Due to new regulations, residents of Tamaqua are no longer able to place old electronic devices out for curbside pick up on trash day. To alleviate the hardship this has caused, Advanced Green Solutions Inc. will hold a free electronic recycling event from 8 a.m. until noon on May 18 at the Tamaqua Transfer Station, 20 Sewer Plant Road, Tamaqua.

Items to be collected and recycled include: televisions, telephones, cell phones, keyboards, cables, cords, CRT monitors, copiers, printers, fax machines, stereos, speakers, DVD players, VCRs, video game systems, LCD monitors, word processors, hard drives, desktop/laptop computers and other miscellaneous electronics equipment.

Zion Lewistown

The Rev. Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion's Church, Lewistown Valley. The service will include Valley Christian Preschool graduation ceremonies. Light refreshments will be served following the service.

Also on Sunday, following the service, the junior choir will rehearse, with Calvary's junior choir, at Calvary Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley

An additional rehearsal will be held at 7 p.m., May 23, at Calvary

St. John UCC

Sunday worship services are held at 9:30 a.m. in St. John United Church of Christ. The service will include the Rite of Confirmation and First Communion. A time of food and fellowship will be held following the service.
