Lions to meet
The Coaldale Lions Club will meet at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 28 at the Viennese Villa in town. All members are urged to attend. President Robert Ames will preside.
Lansford
St. John Lutheran
Tonight at 7 p.m., St. John's Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, will hold an informal worship. This will be a spiritual, peaceful, evening service with Holy Communion. All are welcome to this relaxed, brief, musical, evening prayer. For those who wish to come early, a free simple supper is served at 6 p.m., followed by a brief adult Bible study at 6:30. Pool memberships
The Lansford Pool will be selling pool passes at the office tonight and Thursday from 5-7 p.m. The pool will officially open for the season at noon on Saturday, June 8.
Summit Hill
Food pantry
The Summit Hill Food Pantry will be open on Tuesday, May 28 from 10 a.m. to noon. The food pantry is located in the Summit Hill Heritage Center on Hazard and Chestnut streets. There is to be no parking in the alley prior to 9:45 a.m. and absolutely no parking in the vacant lot at any time. Recipients are reminded to bring along sturdy shopping bags.
Nesquehoning
Monument dedication
The Nesquehoning Lions Club invites the general public to a dedication of new monuments at its site at the former St. Patrick's Cemetery on West Catawissa Street on Saturday, May 25 at 11:30 a.m.
The two new monuments are dedicated to the veterans of Nesquehoning who fought in World War II and the Korean War. Special guests will be present that day.
VFW Ladies Auxiliary
The regular monthly meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 was held May 14 with Sr. Vice President Ellen Driesbach presiding. The well-attended annual Loyalty Day Program and presentation of the Voice of Democracy awards was held May 1.
Due to a lack of volunteers, there was no Buddy Poppy Weekend at Redner's. Poppys are available at the Post Home. The Buddy Poppy Queen is Julia Romankow and her court is Alyssa Kattner and Gabriella Greek. Anthony Ellis is the Buddy Poppy King with Jacob Ellis and Angelo Greek as his court.
JROTC awards will take place today at 7 p.m.
A Miller Bloodmobile collection sponsored by the Post and Auxiliary will also be held today.
Joint Installation of Officers will be held Friday, May 24, at 7 p.m. Officers are to be present for pictures at 6:30. Auxiliary members should bring a dessert.
On Saturday, May 25, at 11:30 a.m. the two new monuments will be dedicated; one for Korea and the other for the raising of the flag on Mount Surabachi at Iwo Jima.
Outlying cemetery services will be held on Sunday, May 26. The contingent will leave the Post Home at noon and will begin at the Knauf Monument on the Broad Mountain and end at the Monument in Hauto.
On Monday, May 27, the annual parade and services will be held. The parade forms at the Nesquehoning Recreation Center at 8 a.m. and pulls out promptly at 8:30.
Following the parade, the main services will be held in front of the Post Home, 300 E. Center St. All members are invited to participate.
The Department Convention will be held June 12-15 in Lancaster. Delegates are: Maureen Hirochek, Missy Hascher and Ann Adams.
Alternates are: Ellen Driesbach, Mary Arieta and Rachael Gullone.
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 11, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
