A tributeto the soldiers

Published May 25. 2013 09:02AM

Dear Editor:

Once upon a time i used to sit at the VFW Post 8067 in downtown Jim Thorpe. It's no longer there, but the memories still remain. I would listen to the stories the veterans would tell. I wanted to honor those veterans with a poem, one for the soldiers.

We all know someone who served or is now serving in some way and this poem is my own little way of saying thank you!!

Return Me Home(A Soldier's Poem)

As a child I would listen in awe

To the tales those men told me

Of the wars and things they saw

In a place and time across the sea

We should remember those tales

So they never have to recall

That old pain when all else fails

Where brothers began to fall

Reach into the stories and know

That they did what we could not

Off to war before they could grow

They see the flag and feel the knot

I sat right there and listened well

To an old man with a heavy heart

To every story that he had to tell

A prayer, just a whisper to start

Return me home, feet on the ground

Return me home, to where i belong

Return me home, where love is found

Under OUR colors, still flying strong….

Jim Thorpe

For those men, who told the tales, and us taught to have pride in not just

Our country but those who fought for it as well….Thank You!
