Shame on you, Mahoning Township!

Mahoning Township has decided to pull a government shut down and refuse to pay their part to support the Carbon County Animal Shelter for the second year in a row.

Shame on them!!

Where will it stop? Now the shelter can not do their job in their township and who suffers? Yes, the animals. Why do they refuse to pay their share this year? Because they claim the shelter did not provide service well enough for them.

Currently there are two people working for the shelter ( one full time and one part time) and the rest are volunteers. When a call for assistance comes in, sometimes it is just not possible to immediately respond, yet instead of offering to help, the township has decided to just shut down.

When will our government agencies stop playing games like children and grow up to accept responsibility?

The amount that the township has not paid in two years is only $693. This is not a lot of money for the amount of stray dogs that the shelter is asked to deal with. Yet they feel this payment is optional and I suppose they have other ways of dealing with the problems.

Perhaps Lowes or Walmart could be the good guys and donate the money? I would certainly reward them as a consumer if they did.

But would the township even allow them to do so? I would think the taxes those two giant companies pay to the township already could cover it, and more.

Anyone who has worked, volunteered or even visited the shelter knows that every little bit counts. The people there are trying their best and working hard with what little they have.

If you live in Mahoning Township, please attend your township meetings and let them know how YOU want your taxes to be spent. Do it for the ones who cannot speak.
