Attains dean's list at Mansfield Univ.
Katie Sabol of Lehighton was named to the spring dean's list at Mansfield University. She is currently a senior saxophone performance major.
During her junior year Katie was saxophone principle of Wind Ensemble, played in the pit of the school musical "Guys and Dolls," played in the Jazz Ensemble, the Mountie Spirit band for basketball, and the Spirit and the Pride Marching Band where she was section leader.
This summer Katie was selected to attend the American Saxophone Academy at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. Thirty-five students were chosen from 24 universities around the country and eight foreign students. Katie was the only student attending from Pennsylvania.
The students played in ensembles and received personal lessons from each of the top classical saxophone teachers in the country, including Dr. Timothy McAllister, Northwestern University; Dr. Otis Murphy, Indiana University; Dr. Kenneth Tse, Iowa University; Professor Chien-Kwan Lin, Eastman School of Music; and Professor Carrie Koffman, Hartt School of Music at the University of Connecticut.
Following graduation Katie plans to continue her education toward a master's degree in saxophone performance. Katie is the daughter of Dr. Joseph and Cindy Sabol of Mahoning Valley. She is a 2010 graduate of Lehighton Area High School.
