Older and bolder

The Tamaqua Salvation Army's Older and Bolder group will discontinue weekly meetings on Nov. 20 with a Thanksgiving/Christmas party.

While the regular meetings will be on hold, the group will continue to be active with Christmas caroling and hand bell choir presentations. The "tour" includes stops at the Hometown Nursing Center, the Tamaqua ABC High Rise and the Majestic House Complex on Dec. 3; St. Luke's Miner's Hospital and Maple Shade Meadows on Dec. 4; Jim Thorpe on Dec. 7; Union Station on Dec. 20.

Thanksgiving dinner

The Tamaqua Salvation Army will sponsor a free community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28. Dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The center is located at 105 W. Broad St.

The Salvation Army is teaming up with the WNEP Feed A Friend Campaign, collecting canned and nonperishable food items. Items may be donated through Nov. 25.

TASK comprehensive plan

The Tamaqua Area School District's state mandated Comprehensive Plan will be voted on at the next regular meeting of the Tamaqua Area School Board. The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 19, in the Tamaqua Area Middle School.

The plan will be sent to the Pennsylvania Department of Education for review and approval.

Anyone wishing to view the plan may visit the district's website at www.tamaqua.k12.ps.us or stop in at the district office, 138 W. Broad St.

MOPS program

The Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network is establishing a new program for Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS). An informational meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 14 at New Life Assembly of God Church, 407 Schuylkill Ave.

The program will not be limited to mothers with preschool age children as all young mothers in the community are welcome.

Mentor moms, child care helpers, craft helpers, discussion leaders and other volunteers are also needed and welcome.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. A congregational meeting will be held following the service.

Next week's activities include: Thursday, Shepherd Choir rehearses at 6:30 p.m., property committee meets at 7 p.m.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. The contemporary service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Tamaqua YMCA. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m., at the church.

Also on Sunday, the monthly service at the Hometown Nursing Center will be held at 3 p.m. and the Be the Leader growth group will meet at 1 p.m.

Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m., Good News Club meets at 3:15 p.m. at the South Ward Playground; Wednesday, I Am growth group meets at 1 p.m. at the Majestic House, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare meets at 7 p.m., musician and praise practice at 8 p.m.; Thursday, Every Man's Battle growth group meets at 7 p.m.

Zion Lutheran

Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church is offering a Saturday worship service. The contemporary style service will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the church social hall. Sunday worship services are held at 9:30 a.m.
