Free Thanksgiving dinner

Faith Alive United Methodist Church, 678 Pine St., Bowmanstown, will serve a Thanksgiving dinner from 1-3 pm. Saturday, Nov. 23. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m.

Holy Trinity Church

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton, will hold Thanksgiving Eve service at 7 p.m. Nov. 27.

The informal service will be in the Fellowship Hall.

Palmerton Senior Center

The Palmerton Senior Center, 501 Delaware Avenue, Palmerton, will be closed Nov. 28-29.

Successful blood drive

In what may have been a record turnout for a fall Palmerton High School blood drive for students and faculty, 57 potential donors registered to donate to Miller-Keystone Blood Center, and 44 units of blood were collected. At least 33 of these were first-time donors. Richard DeSocio reached the 2-gallon level.

National Honor Society members who assisted at the drive included Kristen Ahner, Lauren Campbell, Jenna Creed, Jordan Cressman, Charles Debski, Jessica Debski, Josh Evans, Brittany Fronheiser, Jackie Frohnheiser, Kyna Gibson, Eliza Good, Jenna Haydt, Leah Heffelfinger, Macie Hourt, Maddy Mummey, Lyndsey Nemeth, Andrew Nosti, Mark Quinn, Abby Reimer, Lindsay Stasko, Gabe Scott, Arissa Snyder, Dakota Strohl, Janel Tracy, Kelly Westermann, Taylor Williams, Jaclyn Wood and Alison Young. A number of these were also donors.

The next Miller-Keystone community blood drive will be Friday, Dec. 27. There will be another Miller drive at the high school in February.

Early dismissal and closing

Palmerton Area School District has announced that schools will have an early dismissal Monday-Wednesday, Nov. 25-27. Schools will be closed on Thursday, Friday and Monday, Nov. 28-Dec. 2.

The early dismissal will have an affect on bus schedules.

• Secondary students (7-12) will dismiss at 11 a.m.

• Elementary students (K-6) will dismiss at 11:45 a.m.

• All a.m. and p.m. kindergarten students will attend the a.m. session. The early dismissal day schedule for kindergarten students is 8:30-11:45 a.m.
