Class of 1964
Members of the Jim Thorpe High School class of 1964 will hold their monthly luncheon on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Penn's Peak, at noon. Members of the 50th reunion committee are asked to please meet by 11:30 to discuss some issues with the reunion.
St. John's Lutheran Church
A special program will be held in conjunction with Rally Day festivities at St. John's Lutheran Church, South Avenue, on Sunday, Sept. 15. During Sunday School time, 9:30 and 10 a.m. there will be a bird release. The bird release symbolizes peace, prosperity, success and hope. The Rev. Muhr will give a special blessing for the new Sunday School year.
Reservations are also due on Sunday, Sept. 15, for members of the congregation, wishing to attend the celebration dinner, which will be held on Sunday, Sept. 22. If you are interested in attending the dinner, contact Irene and David Remmel. During the 10:30 worship service on that Sunday, the newly restored organ will be dedicated, along with the baptismal area, chimes, vestments and accessories for the acolytes and readers.
Cheerleaders
Any former cheerleader of Jim Thorpe High School is invited to participate in the alumni cheerleading squad for the Friday, Sept. 13, football game. If you are interested, please contact Julie Romanisko, (610) 577-5021 or at jthscheercoach@yahoo.com to register. The group will practice from 4:30-6 p.m. on Friday.
Community dinner
Sunday, Sept. 22, from 4-6 p.m. will be the next free community dinner at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Race Street. The menu for this month is pork and sauerkraut. If you wish more information you may call (570) 325-2241.
