LOL Open House

The League of Literaries (LOL) will hold an Open House on Sept. 17 at the Tamaqua Community Arts Center, 125 Pine St.

LOL is a group of young writers, middle and high school ages, created in 2012. The group meets every Tuesday, from 6-7 p.m., at the arts center.

The Open House is in celebration of the group's one year anniversary and will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. It offers an opportunity for the public to learn more about the LOL and its members. Free refreshments will be served.

The public is welcome to attend.

Cancer study

The American Cancer Society is seeking volunteers to take part in a Cancer Prevention Study. In an effort to better understand how to prevent cancer, the study will follow a select group of volunteers willing to make a long-term commitment, which includes completing survey forms into the future.

The study group will be composed of men and women between the ages of 30 and 65, who have never been diagnosed with cancer.

An enrollment session will be held Sept. 17 at the LCCC Morgan Center on High Street.

Summer concerts

The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce is concluding the seventh year of its free Summer Concert Series with a performance by Large Flower Heads. The concert will be held from 6-8 p.m. today on the platform at the Tamaqua Train Station.

Older and bolder

Sept. 11 marked the kick off date for the fall session of the Tamaqua Salvation Army's Older and Bolder group. Upcoming activities for September will include: Sept. 18, trip to Bear Mountain Butterfly Sanctuary; Sept. 25, Health Rhythms Drum Circle, with Moe Jerrant; Sept. 27, bell performance at the annual Salvation Army Annual Dinner meeting.

The Older and Bolder group's regular sessions are held from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays.

First Methodist

Pastor Susan Daniels will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this National Back to Church Sunday in First United Methodist Church.

Volunteers are needed for an attic treasures sale on Sept. 21 and for the Oktoberfest food stand.

St. John UCC

Sunday worship services are held at 9:30 a.m. in St. John United Church of Christ. A time of food and fellowship will be held following the service. The weekly radio broadcast is aired at 11:30 a.m., every Sunday, on WLSH Radio, AM station 1410.

Sunday school classes meet at 11 a.m.

Activities for next week include: Wednesday, choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.
