Nesquehoning
Free seminar on scams and fraud
A representative from the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General will present a free seminar on rip-offs, fraud, scams and cons on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Nesquehoning Recreation Center.
The seminar is geared toward senior citizens but is applicable to everyone and is open to the public.
VFW Ladies Auxiliary
The regular monthly meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial Post 8008 was held on Sept. 10 at the Post Home with treasurer Maureen Hirocheck presiding.
General Orders 2 were read and filed for action and 70 cards were sent under Veterans and Family Support.
Donations were made to Operation Uplink and MAP which support deployed service men and women.
The Charter was draped in honor of recently departed member, Verna Lazorchick.
It was noted that several members have been ill or hospitalized recently and cards should be sent.
Candle forms are available from Mary Arieta or at the Post Home.
Information on the Voice of Democracy Program will be provided to Panther Valley High School.
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 6:30 p.m. and all members are requested to make an effort to attend.
The Auxiliary will be inspected at the October meeting by District 20 president, Karen Bandzi.
Membership dues for 2014 are payable at this time.
Coaldale
First Congregational Church
Morning Worship will be 9 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 29, at First Congregational Church, Coaldale, with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Benack conducting the service. Sunday School follows at 10 a.m.
Women's Class will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 1. All area women are welcome to attend these twice-monthly meetings.
The nursing home group will visit St. Luke's-Miners Geriatric Center, Coaldale, at 11 a.m. and MapleShade, Nesquehoning, at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 2.
Choir rehearsal is set for 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 2.
