Lenten services
Effort United Methodist Church begins its Lenten evening with soup and salad at 5:15 p.m., a study time using Adam Hamilton's Final Words from the Cross, from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. and a Lenten worship service in the sanctuary from 7 to 7:30 p.m.
Our Lady Queen of Peace, Gilbert, will continue with its Following Christ program from 6:15 to 8:45 p.m. That time includes dinner, worship through prayer and music and a teaching followed by small group discussion.
Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church, Brodheadsville, is part of a several-churches group which meets at various area churches. Tonight the host church will be Reeders United Methodist with the Rev. Paul Miller preaching.
Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville continues its 6:15 p.m., Lenten supper and Bible study and 7:30 p.m. Lenten worship schedule.
Lions board meets
The Western Pocono Lions Club Board of Directors will meet at the Western Pocono Community Library at 7 o'clock this evening. All Lions are welcome.
The monthly dinner meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at The Old Mill Pizza on Route 209 in Sciota on Wednesday, April 16. The guest speaker will be Don Sachs, development director for the Boy Scouts, Minsi Trail Council.
PVEN board
The board of directors for the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville.
PIC works
Pride in Chestnuthill will meet at 7 a.m. Saturday at the Chestnuthill Township Municipal Building in Brodheadsville for its first cleanup of the spring.
PIC does not pick up in rain, snow or temperatures below 45 degrees at 7 a.m. on the day of the event.
Volunteers are asked to wear brightly colored rugged clothing and footwear. Children under 13 years of age are not permitted. Children ages 13 to 18 must be accompanied by a parent.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 10 at the municipal building.
Easter party
American Legion Unit 927 Auxiliary in Gilbert is hosting a Children's Easter Party for children ages 1 to 10, at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 12.
There will be chance to meet the Easter Bunny as well as have lunch, and there will be games, prizes and baskets for the children. Sign up at the American Legion building in Gilbert by Tuesday, April 8. A $1 donation is requested. Two adults per child may attend.
Clothing collection
Troop 98 is hosting a used clothing collection to benefit its Maine High Adventure Trek Group. Wearable and usable clothing (all ages); shoes; belts; handbags; linens such as bedding, curtains and towels; stuffed animals; hard toys including bicycles are all acceptable. Donors are asked to put all items in tightly tied plastic bags and deliver them to the end of Jena Drive in Brodheadsville Self Storage, from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, April 13.
The collection will be converted to funds to help meet expenses for the trek.

Fishing permits
Chestnuthill and Jackson townships have again partnered with the Pohoqualine Fish Association to offer half-day Monday or Tuesday fly fishing permits on the McMichaels Creek this season. The permits are available to residents of those townships. For more information Chestnuthill residents can call 570-992-9733 and Jackson residents can call 570-629-0966.
Seniors group
Chestnuthill Seniors meet from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays at Zion Lutheran Church's Fellowship Hall, Brodheadsville Dolores Casalaspro, manager, can be reached at 570-992-2916 to make reservations for lunch. In addition to the meal, various programs, presentations, games and fellowship are part of the group's daily activities.
Garden of Giving
The Garden of Giving in McMichaels welcomes Denise Mazza and Jay Orefice to the board. The organizations also congratulates Eric Galliente for earning his Eagle Scout Award in March for his project at the Garden of Giving. He built eight raised beds which will grow fresh organic produce for Monroe County residents, as well as an arbor bench.
The Garden of Giving is always in need of chicken feed; volunteers to help with chickens or in the office, on the website, on the board and at fundraising events like the annual Fill the Truck event, April 12 at Tractor Supply Company in Brodheadsville.
The first planting event of the season is scheduled for April 12 and 13.

PV Cubs
Sign-ups for the PV Cubs continues 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 7 and 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 13 at the Pleasant Valley High School Old Auditorium lobby.
