Older and bolder

The Salvation Army's Older and Bolder group meets Wednesdays, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St. Regular meetings include a light luncheon.

Since its beginning in 2009, as a way for seniors to get together and discuss important topics, the program has grown and spun off additional programs, such as the Bell Choir, the Needlebugs Quilting group and Exerette gentle exercise.

April activities will include: April 7, bell concert at York Terrace, leaving at 10:30 a.m.; April 8, bell concerts at 10 a.m., Hometown Nursing Center, 11 a.m., Tamaqua ABC High Rise and noon at the Majestic House; April 9, bell concert at noon at St. Luke's Miners Hospital and at 2:30 a.m. at Maple Shade Meadows; April 16, Easter pot luck party with entertainment by Eileen Meiser; April 23, Earth Day celebration; April 30, guest speaker from Diakon on Medicare Part D, making doggie treats with the youth group.

Soup social

Monthly soup socials are being held at Trinity United Church of Christ, 22 Lafayette St. The next outreach social will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday. The event is part of Trinity's monthly "Feeding the Hungry" program.

The public is welcome to attend and share in the free soup, friendship and God's love. Those attending are reminded to use the lower parking lot entrance into Founder's Hall.

St. John UCC

The Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ. The service will be followed by a time of fellowship. Sunday school classes for all ages will be held at 11 a.m. The weekly radio program will be aired on WLSH AM1410, at 11:30 a.m.

Sunday will be the last day to register for brunch with the bunny, which will be held on Palm Sunday, following the worship service.

Soup pick up will be held from noon until 1:30 p.m. this Saturday.

Activities for next week will include: Monday, consistory meeting at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, joint Lenten service, 7:30 p.m., at Trinity UCC.

St. Peter's Union

Sunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. This Sunday's service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school classes are held at 10:15 a.m.

Also this Sunday, the Women of St. Peter's will meet following the service; Confirmation class will meet at 11:30 a.m., Scout crossover banquet will be held at 5 p.m., Daisies and Brownies meet at 6 p.m.

Activities for next week include: Monday, Bell choir practice will be at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, Thrivent chapter meeting at 6 p.m., deadline for May newsletter; Wednesday, retirees meet at 10 a.m., midweek Lenten service, 7:30 p.m., Zion's Stone Church; Thursday, prayer group meets at 4:45 p.m., worship and music committee meets at 6 p.m., junior choir practices at 7 p.m. and senior choir meets at 7:30 p.m.

New member Sunday will be observed on April 13, Palm Sunday.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school and Confirmation classes will meet at 10:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the bell choir will perform at 1:45 p.m. during the American Cancer Society Telethon.

Next week's activities include: Wednesday, midweek Lenten services, noon at New Life Assembly of God Church, 7 p.m. at Zion Lutheran; Thursday, learning ministry meets at 6 p.m., angel choir rehearsal at 6 p.m., shepherd choir rehearses at 6:30 p.m., chancel choir rehearses at 7:30 p.m.

The bell choir will rehearse at 11:45 a.m. on April 13.
