Blood drive
A Miller-Keystone Blood Drive is held every Wednesday, from noon to 6 p.m., at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville. For an appointment call 1-800-223-6667. Walk-ins are welcome.
Women's club speaker
The Western Pocono Women's Club will honoring Jake Sarwar of Saylorsburg when it meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Jake was the club's 2014 representative at the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar in May and will be sharing his experiences at the meeting.
He is the son of Mohammad and Maria Sarwar of Saylorsburg.
The Western Pocono Women's Club meets at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month, March through December, at the Effort United Methodist Church on Merwinsburg Road in Effort. It is open to all women 18 and older.
The club is finalizing plans for its food stand at the West End Fair.

Board of education
The board of education for the Pleasant Valley School District will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday in the administrative center off Route 115 in Brodheadsville.
Special Masses
Mass for the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a holy day of obligation, will be offered at 5 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m., 12:10, and 7 p.m. Friday. There will be no 8 a.m. Mass on Thursday.
Help needed
Ross Township will be the recipient of a Playworld Systems "Nuvo" playground structure being donated to the township as a memorial to the events of last year. The initial step is to accept delivery which is scheduled for Friday morning. Volunteers are needed to assist in the unloading. A community build time will be coordinated in the near future and more help will be needed.

PVHS Open House
A Get to Know Your High School event for ninth-graders will be held at Pleasant Valley High School from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday.
The program will begin in the new auditorium with information including an overview of policies and procedures at the high school. Tours of the building will be given at the conclusion to help familiarize students with Pleasant Valley High School. For more information call the school at 570-402-1000, ext. 4001.
Supper invitation
Current leaders and volunteers of Safe Haven Dog Rescue will meet at Cherry's Restaurant in Kresgeville at 6:30 p.m., next Tuesday. Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to attend.

supervisors
The Chestnuthill Township Board of Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m., next Tuesday, at the township municipal building on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.
Meeting change
The West End GOP club will meet a week earlier than usual, on Aug. 19, due to the West End Fair. The meeting will take place at Cherry's Family Restaurant in Kresgeville.
Altar and Rosary
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church's Altar and Rosary will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. Aug. 20.
Find your classroom
Next week Tuesday and Wednesday, students going to Pleasant Valley Middle School will have Meet the Principal times as well as time for finding their respective classrooms.
The intermediate and elementary schools will have Find Your Classroom Day on Aug. 21.
Kindergartners will have their orientation and bus ride at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 20.
Chestnuthill planning
Chestnuthill Township Planning Commission is slated to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the municipal building in Brodheadsville.
Zion Seniors
The seniors group gathering under the banner of Zion Seniors will next meet at the church at 11 a.m., Aug. 21. Participants are reminded to bring a sandwich. Beverages are provided.
Grief Support Group
The Grief Share Support Group at Effort UMC is offering a 13-week program starting Sept. 14. Participants will meet on Sunday afternoons, beginning at 12:30 p.m., in the church counseling room.
The group sessions are approximately 90-minutes long. Co-facilitators of the groups are Ann Sanders and Jan Decker.
Anyone interested in attending is asked contact the church office at 570-629-1890 no later than Sept. 5.
Date change
Effort UMW has changed the group's meeting date from Sept. 8, as announced earlier, to Sept. 14, as it sponsors the annual church picnic that is taking place on that date.
