Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Nov. 25 at the Ryan Township Fire Company in Barnesville with 41 members attending.

The business session was conducted by President Eleanor Schmerfeld. Chaplain Kathleen Valentine offered the invocation, "Make Me Worthy."

Birthday greetings were offered to Muriel Wehr. Anniversary wishes were extended to Jim and Kathleen Valentine, who celebrated 65 years together. Shirley Becker shared several jokes, and Ruthann Feane offered a reading of "Thank You God For Everything."

The Christmas party will be on Tuesday.

Tree festival

The Tamaqua Spirit of Christmas Festival will include a tree decorating contest. Individuals, businesses and organizations are welcome to decorate a Christmas tree with lights and ornaments, which will be donated to deserving families following the festival.

Decorated trees will be on display throughout the Spirit of Christmas weekend festivities at the Tamaqua Community Arts Center, 125 Pine St. The public will vote for a "People's Choice" award. The trees will be on display from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Dec. 5, from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Dec. 6, and from noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 7.

Adult Day Care

The Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center has activities planned for December, including special holiday entertainment this Friday.

Other activities for the month include: Tuesday, bingo; Dec. 12, cookie baking; Dec. 17, Salvation Army visit; Dec. 19, Christmas party and visit from St. Jerome's kindergarten students; Dec. 24, cocoa and cookie day.

In addition to weekly sing-alongs, exercise sessions, a variety of therapies and social games, the center provides for hairstyling and manicure service, both requiring advance notice.

Breakfast, lunch and a snack are served daily.

Calvary Evangelical

The Rev. Ed Bean will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes are held at 9:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the family movie "The Christmas Candle" will be presented at 6:30 p.m., followed by discussion time and fellowship.

A time of prayer and praise is held at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays at the home of Carl Heisler, 955 Catawissa Road.

The Christmas party will be held following the worship service on Dec. 14.

St. Peter's Union

Sunday worship services are held at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. This Sunday's service will include Holy Communion. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 11:30 a.m.; WASP family Christmas party at noon; Cub Scouts meet at 5 p.m.; bell choir practice is at 6 p.m.; youth group Angel Tree shopping and caroling starts at 6 p.m.; Daisies, Brownies, Juniors and Cadets will meet at 6 p.m.

Activities for next week include: Tuesday, prayer group at 5 p.m.; Wednesday, retirees meet at 10 a.m.; Thursday, worship and music committee meeting at 6 p.m.

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at this Sunday's 10:30 a.m. service in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school will be held at 9:15 a.m.

Activities for next week will include: Monday, yearly planning committee will meet at 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday, fundraiser committee meets at 6:30 p.m., preschool board meets at 7:30 p.m.
