Annual Creche and Nativity Display this weekend in Jim Thorpe
St. John's Lutheran Church, 319 South Ave. in the heights section of Jim Thorpe will welcome the public to its seventh annual Creche/Nativity Display from noon until 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
This year's display will feature nativity items made from a variety of materials such as pewter, tin, cloth, ceramic, wood, beeswax and more.
The items range in age from new to very old. There are nativities on display with figures that are barely an inch high, and others that are a couple of feet tall.
They come in different styles as well, such as jewelry, candy tins and banners, as well as the standard multipiece manger scene.
The items on display come from all over the world. Some are cherished family treasures and some are new, flea market finds.
In its first year, the display attracted about 100 pieces. Last year close to 500 nativities were on display, and this year organizers are expecting close to 550. All new items will be given a place of honor on a specially designated table.
Admission to the creche/nativity display is free and light refreshments will be served.
The church is easy to find, Route 209 south to left on Walnut Avenue (just past DeeZines Florist), follow Walnut Avenue to right on Center Avenue, proceed two blocks to left on Spruce and then left onto South Avenue. The church is on the right.
There will also be a free trolley from the train station to the church that will operate both days beginning at noon and making its last run at 4:30 p.m.
