Prothonotary's report
A total of 276 cases were started in November in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of the cases is as follows:
Assessment appeals, 10; civil actions, 36; custody complaints,14; district justice appeals, 2; divorce complaints, 15; complaint in ejectment, 1; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 30; name change petition, 1; protection from abuse petitions, 20; quiet title action, 1; replevin complaint, 1; tax sale, 1; court appointments, 3; judgments, 136; miscellaneous cases, 2; and stipulations/waivers of liens, 3. The office staff also received and processed 33 applications for U.S. passports.
Behrens' financial report shows $33,930.95 was generated last month as follows: prothonotary's fees, $28,298.06; interest income $3.22; custody fee; $1,000; data processing fees, $4,629.67; and Remote Access Fees, $6,800.
The prothonotary also remitted $4,644.26 to the Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $78 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $1,239.92 was deposited in the Prothonotary's Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
Revenue from deeds
Carbon County Recorder of Deeds Emmett P. McCall reported his office recorded 203 deeds, 158 mortgages and 256 other writs during the month of November.
As a result of those transactions, McCall turned over to the Carbon County General Fund the sum of $23,605.35. A breakdown of that revenue includes: transfer fees, $18,111.50; data processing fees, $2,092.50; notaries, $40; commission on transfers and writs, $2,481.25; and Affordable Housing administrative fee, $881.10.
McCall remitted $308.50 in state writ taxes to the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, while Carbon County municipalities and school districts shared realty transfer tax disbursements totaling $123,539.05, the same amount that was forwarded to the state in realty transfer taxes.
McCall deposited $1,842 in the Recorder of Deeds Record Improvement Fund and $1,228 in the Carbon County Records Improvement Fund, these being fees assessed by state law on each transaction for records management needs. An additional $19,809 was collected and remitted to the state for its Judicial Computer System program.
Also, $4,992.90 was collected last month for the Affordable Housing Program in Carbon County.
In all, funds collected in the Recorder's office last month amounted to $298,864.85.
Credit defaults
