Receives affirmation
Ken Edwards, Brodheadsville, was affirmed by the Northeast District Committee on Ministry of the United Methodist Church as ready to serve as a part-time Licensed Local Pastor when an appointment is available. He currently leads the 5 p.m. worship service at Effort United Methodist Church every Saturday. Beginning March 1, the time will be moved to 6 p.m.
Lions board meets
The board of directors for the Western Pocono Lions Club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Western Pocono Community Library. All Lions are welcome.
Tax help
Free tax help for all ages with special attention to seniors is available from AARP Tax Assistance Group, Lehighton, at Salem United Church of Christ in Gilbert beginning Feb. 4. Help is available Monday and Thursday mornings, from 9 a.m. until noon.
If schools are closed, tax sites are closed. If there is a one-hour delay, it will open at the regular time.
If Pleasant Valley schools have a two-hour delay, the hours of operation will be 10 a.m. until noon.
PVEN board meets
The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network board will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville.
Distribution dates
Supplemental Food Resource Center, a ministry of Effort United Methodist Church to help feed those in need in the West End, including Effort, McMichaels, Gilbert, Jonas, Kunkletown, Kresgeville, Brodheadsville, Saylorsburg, Sciota and Albrightsville, who are going through emergency or other short-term situations and are not eligible for local, county or state programs, is limited to an eight-week duration per family.
A valid driver's license or state ID with address proving residency in the West End is required. Distribution for February is Feb. 8 and Feb. 22.
The church is located on Merwinsburg in Effort.
Adoption Day
Camp Papillon will hold an Meet & Greet/Adoption Day from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday at Tractor Supply, Route 209, Brodheadsville. Individuals can fill out an online application and get pre-approved in advance or consider becoming a volunteer. Dog presentation
The Western Pocono Community Library will present Trifecta Kennels' co-trainers Lisa Kane and Grace Mondrosch and their program promoting the importance of early education in training; preventing shelter overloads; health and safety at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 10.
Residents are invited to view demonstrations of the points made in the program and meet some of the 'students'. There will be prizes and games, too.

UMW meets
Effort United Methodist Church Women invites women, 13 years of age or older, to the next UMW meeting at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 10, in Wesley Hall.
Hostesses will be Alma Middleton and Lucy Boomer. Devotions will be provided by Middleton.
Blanket collection

Zion Lutheran's Knit & Crochet group will meet at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 11.
Blood pressure check
Free blood pressure readings will be done by staff from Allen Lear Home Care from 10-11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12, at the Chestnuthill Senior Center, located at Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville.
If the schools are closed due to inclement weather, the center will be closed.
Lioness board meets
The Western Pocono Lioness Club board of directors will meet at noon, Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Cherry's Family Restaurant in Kresgeville. All members are welcome.
