Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday in the District Office, Route 115, Brodheadsville.
Free shingles shot
The Department of Health will hold a free shingles vaccination clinic from 9-11 a.m. Friday at the Chestnuthill Senior Center meeting at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville.
One is eligible for the vaccine at no cost if 50 years of age or older and uninsured or underinsured. All programs are open to the public.

Boomer's Angels
On Sunday Boomer's Angels Rescue and Care will be at Tractor Supply, Route 209, Brodheadsville from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with dogs available for adoption.

Medicare education
The Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville, will be a site for a program beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, for a session on Understanding Medicare. Information will be presented on basic Medicare coverage, as well as supplement insurance, Medicare managed care plans and prescription drug coverage.
It will be presented by APPRISE of Monroe County Area Agency on Aging. APPRISE is the State Health Insurance program free counseling service for Medicare participants. APPRISE volunteers and staff will be available to answer questions after the presentation. For more information call 570-420-3746.

Lioness meet
The Western Pocono Lioness Club will meet Jan. 28, at the special starting time of 5 p.m. at the American Legion in Gilbert.
The meeting will include a weather-delayed gift exchange postponed from December. The club will also go over upcoming activities and events for the 2014 year, such as the collection for AWSOM animal shelter at the Feb. 25 meeting. For more information, call Ruth at 610-381-4274.
WE Republicans
The next regular meeting of the West End Republican Club will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28 at the Luna Rossa Restaurant on Route 209. An optional dinner may be had, beginning at 6 p.m.

McMichaels United Methodist Church will celebrate Holy Communion at its Sunday, Feb. 2 service.
Souper Bowl
Effort UMC will participate in the nationwide annual Souper Bowl Sunday on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 2. Each year the local church's Missions Team and Supplemental Food Resource Center (food pantry) sponsor the appropriately named Souper Bowl.
The church will have soup pots in the sanctuary for donations of canned goods and nonperishables.
There will be a little competition involving the Broncos and Seahawks who are in this year's Super Bowl. Each soup pot will have a team name so church attendees can vote for his or her respective favorite by placing a donation in that team's pot.
Free program
The West End Park and Open Space Commission will host a free children's craft event at Chestnuthill Park, Route 715, Brodheadsville, from 10 a.m. until noon, Saturday, Feb 22. Participants will get everything needed to make a Pine Cone Bird Feeder to take home.
